Opinions needed-Motion or Pantera
Ok guys I need your opinions we live in S.fla and am getting ready to buy another boat. The choices have come down to a 28" pantera with a single big block set up with a six man bolster ( I'd do a conversion for pleasure) and no real cabin to speak of or a 30' motion cat with twin 300's. I have sea trialed the cat and loved it however I didn't get into any rough water. Most of our boating is done in the ICW and ocean when it's calm ( I'll run in rougher water without my girl ) and a few poker runs. I have only owned v-bottoms in the past and would like some input from those of you with experience
Thanks |
Re: Opinions needed-Motion or Pantera
Go with the cat, you will not regret it, with the exception of the insurance. Talk with Randy Sweers at Fastboats.com, he raced a Motion and should be able to answer any questions.

Cat. Not even a close call.
Faster and you have the reliability of twins. |
Re: Opinions needed-Motion or Pantera
Cat, you will love the outboards. You get in turn the key they start, water is pissing out the back and your boating.

Re: Opinions needed-Motion or Pantera
Motion is a very good rough water boat. The 300's are also excellent motors. That boat will be extremely nice.

Re: Opinions needed-Motion or Pantera
I've been in your shoes before, I've had 2 Panteras and for a 28 ft boat and customer support it couldnt get better they are built right and handle the rough all day long with a great cabin size but if you want to go fast here in Miami I would go with the cat....If you have a family then the Pantera hands down.....if you dont have a family (kids) you might want to look at how many times you actually go out and how many times its rough (what you consider rough) then go out in a motion on the rough....I have a spectre and average 80's all day any day execpt if its 7-8-9ft seas but then again I probrably would be boating that day either. once you learn to handle it, you dont feel the rough becuase you ride on top...the farther they are from each other the faster you have to maintain.....
Then you have the insurance which is not cheap trust me..... |
Re: Opinions needed-Motion or Pantera
just check on the insurance on the cat.

Motion
They are hard core cats that were build to race. Resale seems to be awesome on them. |
Re: Opinions needed-Motion or Pantera
You will have a lot more fun with the cat, and you won't have to mess with a conversion. I doubt the insurance is going to be crazy because it doesn't fall into the "ultra high performance" tier.
