Bad Ice Storm

Good luck to all of you OK and MO 'ers. This ice storm really sucks bad. No power for two days now, and a serious amt of trees fallen. Doesnt look good tonight.

Re: Bad Ice Storm

I was in Tulsa, Thur, Fri and Saturday for the Chili Bowl midget nationals, which Tony Stewart won BTW. Decided to drive back last night, the roads were real tricky and we saw many broken trees, lines were hanging very low.

If they get any more it's going to get real nasty.

It's just about impossible to get a diesel pickup up any kind of a slope without 4x4 in those conditions. Cant believe I hesitated to buy that option.

Its funny, I called everywhere in Tulsa trying to buy a generator Friday night when they said we would all be without power and everyone was sold out. I have a 3mo old and a 2yr old kid. I was freaking out. Saturday they were all restocked and the 2 Lowes I went to hadn't sold one all day. Luckily we still have power.

Wobble, I too am in Tulsa for the Chili Bowl. Flight to Jersey is supposed to leave tomorrow @ 4:3opm, rescheduled from this morning. I am amazed that they just leave the roads unsalted and unplowed! (I was told by several people they only have 4 plow trucks for the whole city!) They just say oh well and shut everything down! Different world than the Northeast!

I was in Toronto for that winter 98' storm. Just came back from Orlando the day before it. That was not fun.......

Last Sunday my area was hit with 135 mph winds so my house just had power restored yesterday.

We are getting our 3rd round of ice at this moment here at LOTO. Power is out in a few areas as 2 local radio stations have been off the air.

Re: Bad Ice Storm

This whole thing sucks!

Any of you guys remember my truck boo boo from hitting the pole last spring? I posted pics in the Truck and trailer forum.

Now get this crap. Going to inlaws house this afternoon in Kansas, Ok. Taking them some stuff they need since they were down. Took the old road instead of turnpike like I always do. Big mistake! Tree fell across the road and blocked it. Myself and several other guys cleared it out with a chainsaw and some ropes and chains...no big deal. While we were doing that trees were falling all around us in the forest like crazy. Another one fell up the road from us about 100 yds or so. Didn't block the road completely, only one lane. After we got the tree cleared I got in my truck and let all the traffic go by my while warning them about the other tree up ahead. I took off after they went by. While going around the tree another tree fell out of nowhere and came through my #@%$^&%$ windshield! Caved in part of my cab and ripped off my passenger side mirror. Unreal!!!!

Guess I'm without a truck again for about a month or so.

I'm sitting here typing this listening to trees fall in the distance. This is some freaky stuff. There wasn't this much damage from the Tornado that hit us this last spring.

:(

getting the front end of that weather here in NNY now, as of this morning. We have had a couple of devastating ice storms in the last 10 years here. :(

No worries, lots of fuel oil, kerosene, two kerosuns, freshly tuned-up generator, lotsa food staples on hand, and 5 extra bedrooms to take in stranded hotties.

and I don't have to be at the hospital again 'till Thurs. night.

Thank you,

Wow Buck, glad you were able to post that story.

Chainsaw was a great idea, I had all the basic survival stuff (snack food, drinks, first aid, extra clothing+ chains and extra lights). Next time I go into a winter storm area I will be sure to carry a chainsaw and gas

It sure is, didn't seem to bother the locals much though:drink:

15000 people show up for a race in the middle of a winter storm, that's racers for you:drink:

IMHO weather patterns have been more radical lately.. A generator went in my garage 3-4 years ago and has been used twice so far.

didn't think about posting here till we got up there, had a great time as always, Tulsa and it's people are a great host for the races. Beer, Crown, Strippers, Racing, Police, Ice, Freezing Rain, Blood, Hangovers, What more could you ask from a road trip.

Will be sure to let you guys know in advance next year.

Thanks for thinking of me Ken. Fortunately my partner has more trucks than he knows what to do with. I just grabbed the 2006 F350 Crew Cab he recently purchased. I feel like he isn't putting enough miles on it to break it in properly. :drink:

Well, there is some light at the end of the tunnel. My truck, one trailer, two chain saws, and a willing beer buddy. 1700 in one day.

Started raining hard in Lake Conroe last night, freezing tonight. got a call from my buddy his 31 American Offshore floated off the dock. His 24' Welcraft flipped over. We spend 6 hours today trying to get it flipped over. Will try again tomorrow.

9 days and 5 hours without juice in Grove, OK. We just got power back about 3 hours ago.

The tree damage is terrible but the power issue was alot worse.

We burned over 100 gal. of fuel in just generators during the outage.

At least we never ran out of bourban!:drink:

I am looking to heading up to Oklahoma or Missouri for FEMA hauling contract, but they have us on hold until the later part of this week. Guess the roads are still that bad.

Consider yourself lucky Chad. My buddy Brandon lives by Governor's Retreat. Still no power. They are saying it could be another 4-5 weeks for him. He's with REC. PSO said they are done with all of their repairs.

My parents have some friends on the north side of the lake that are still down too.

Oh, and my truck is still screwed up!

We can't wait to be FEMA'd or Katrina'd. Glad to have help up here but FEMA is already slowing chit down. Insurtance comapnies aren't even calling us back. and pissed

Re: Bad Ice Storm

yeah its sad, but that is typical. From my understanding, and its limited the information I have right now, is that the roads are still not ready to have that much truck traffic rolling up and down them and they are still in the process of setting up the dumps and disposal areas. There are a lot of us who want to get up there and start working, they just wont let us yet.
