I went down there this morning and it is A LOT worse in person! It's f*ckin' done! I took a bunch of pics that I'll post later when I get home. There's a piece of the crane next to it that looks like they cut off. It's bent to sh!t too.

It is a Sunseeker, either a 75 or 80. I heard it was going to be shipped over seas which would make sense since Hueneme harbor is an importer/exporter "world" port. All business, no recrereational use.

I'll get the other pics up asap.

If you have 3 mil to drop on a yacht, I don't think you are too worried. Besides I'm sure it was insured.

I wonder if the operator will get fired. That's a pretty big mistake. I wish I could have seen it.

What a waste of a nice crane!

I don't know why they would lie so blatantly with so many witnesses standing around. But, the operator was injured and taken away in an ambulance with pretty bad leg injuries!!

sounds like the crain they used was not big enough to handle the load. The operator was probably not certified either as he would have known the crains capacity.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

shelly, what do you know? it was a 300-ton crane with plenty of boom and counter-weights... the operator, crane, and foreman could all handle the job... a gust of wind, impossible to have foreseen, took the boat and swung the crane, consequently toppling the job. accidents happen, so shelly, stop pointing fingers.

shelly, you don't even know how to spell "crane". there should be a minimum i.q. requirement to post comments.

I "almost" had a similar situation occur about two months ago over at Channel Islands Landing on Victoria.

I store my boat there because I prefer the hoist to get me in/out of the water. Their "real" hoist broke down so they brough in a Pettibone crane to use instead. The last time I used it, my 23" Baja was spinning in circles, dangling at the end of a 50" line. But I was lucky, the bow missed the concrete pilings by 6" at least. As everyone said, that crane was simply an accident waiting to happen!

The good news ..... they have gotten rid of the Pettibone and are in process of installing a real 8000# boat hoist.

Good things happen to those who wait
..... Now I can get a bigger Baja!

We had a printing press shipped from Italy 7-8 years ago. The dock workers put a 50,000 lbs unit (one of 9) on a flat bed to move it into the yard away from the docks until it cleared customs......they flipped the entire rig! THEIR TRUCK AND OUR LOAD! Several weeks went by before our riggers were allowed to come pick up the containers. When they did one container couldn't be found.....turns out they hid it in the back area so no one would see it. Once the dock/company accknowledge what they did they sent a letter of apology along with a copy of the federal law that says they are liable UP TO $500.00..YES THAT"S IT! Your own insurance must cover the rest!
