Betty Cook's 53' Cigarette??
http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listi...g_id=59909&url
Did Cigarette make such a 53' boat in 1973? I do know that Betty Cook owned this boat when new, albeit some 34 yrs ago. Boat is located in CA, not Ft. Lauderdale as mentioned in the ad. |
Re: Betty Cook's 53' Cigarette??
Looks like a Magnum to me! Boat was probably built on Thunderboat Row in Miami back in the Hay Day. Magnum, Cigarette, Apache, Tempest, etc. were all next to each other back then.

Re: Betty Cook's 53' Cigarette??
The Magnum's nose is much more round. I'd have guessed Cary but the integral swim platform throws me.
Twin 502's? I'll bet she hauls a$$! |
Re: Betty Cook's 53' Cigarette??
Looks like a Cary with a built on swim platform...............

Re: Betty Cook's 53' Cigarette??
Sure has a wide beam. Guess that comes with the 53 feet. Someone's hittin' the vodka and OJ for the photo session though. Seems like a lot of $$ for that boat. Interesting boat nonetheless.

The local broker is selling 1/5th ownerships for $25K with a $400/mo maintainance fee. ?? I cannot see that a boat like this needs a $24K worth of work a year.
$125K seems high for a boat with gas engines. |
Re: Betty Cook's 53' Cigarette??
And I thought my boat was slow. 35 knots, you better hold on to your hat!!

Re: Betty Cook's 53' Cigarette??
Rik,
I looked at that boat four years ago when it was donated to the local Sea Scouts in Napa. It's been cut and stretched to make it a 53' but they did a nice job. The boat was selling for $20k four years ago... Yes 20k! Someone has done some MAJOR re-work on her along with painting the hullsides. She looks alot better than she did when I saw her last. The motors that where in it then where blown 454's and looked liked they needed some good lovin'. It's got a great stabin'-cabin but it's going to take you all day to get to Sams and good luck getting dock space for that stretch! I was thinking of putting a pair of deisels in her but it was way more project for what it's worth. Looks like she's tied up in the Canal behing Butch's? Short walk for you and Dale! |
Re: Betty Cook's 53' Cigarette??
BTW I think the sister to that hull is still in Napa. Boat's red and called "Rude", I'm sure you know it.

Re: Betty Cook's 53' Cigarette??
I read that Cigarette at one point had licensed a manufacturer in Europe to make a 50+ hull and I have seen some for sale now and then but I don't know if this is one of them.

Looks alot like the 42 for sale in the OSO classifieds, that would be a great boat for about 100k

OTAM was basically just a 44' Magnum splash. |

Sorry, I am not interested in purchasing a boat. I just met someone at Loch Lomand, that asked about the 53' Cigarette that was for sale.. ??? Didn't think Cig made such a thing in the early 70's but I am by no means an expert on the history of Cig. Gas, inboards, old... Not worth making a booze cruiser. |
