Mercury 700 less $ than 600??

talked to a couple of manufacturer OEM's today and they both said Mercury is currently pushing the 700's and have them priced lower than the 600 engine. why are they pushing the 700 so much?

Re: Mercury 700 less $ than 600??

I would guess that they are going to do away with the 600SCI again because it is not much of an upgrade over the 525EFI in true horse power and speed. The 700SCI also probably cost as much to manufacture as the 600SCI. It probably doesn’t make as much business sense from a profit stand point for Mercury to sell both. The 700SCI is a nice upgrade over the 525EFI

Re: Mercury 700 less $ than 600??

But I thought the 700 is only available WITH the NXT drive.
I thought you could buy the 600 as just a powerplant without a drive. Didn't have to buy it with a drive.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
What is the 700 going for - with and without drive - if it's available either way?

Rumor has it that they are doing away with the supercharged 600 and coming out with a N/A 600 in the near future.

Make sure the NXT's have the new modifications. Mercury has recalled a bunch of the drives with new replacements.

Sorry, I was thinking of the 1075 with a #6. Not the 700.

No failures to my knowledge. Some refined gearing changes, nose cone shape and skeg shape/length.

Someone said Fountain is changing out all of the lowers for a #6 lower. They said the NXT lower cause some wierd handling.

Besides transmission failures the shape has caused major problems with hydrodynamics. Why do you think Fountain will not sell a new boat with nxt drives.

LostCowboy 01-26-2007 05:12 PM

Re: Mercury 700 less $ than 600??

I believe the Fountain handling problem is due to the higher X demintion they use. Cigarette on the other hand has not had that problem but they have lowered the X demintion a bit.

That said, you can get the NXT drive with a #6 lower. Other than having to change the water pickup that is a nice piece of equipment.

Re: Mercury 700 less $ than 600??

Donzi and Formula havn't had problems as well. Outerlimits on the other hand will only put #6's on their 39's with 700's.

Oh Deere 01-26-2007 11:38 PM

Re: Mercury 700 less $ than 600??

The problems have depended on the hull and X demension. Each manufacturer has had a different experience.
