Should I sell my boat or not?
 

I know I know, ok heres the deal. I never finished my degree, and im finally back in school at a private university. holy chit its expensive, and im determined to pay it all out of pocket. 12 hour semesters are running in the 8k range. I will be finished in about a year and a half. Im thinking about selling the boat, sucking it up and finishing school, then rewarding myself with a new one when i get done (new to me not new :D ) Im fine paying for the boat and school, but the boat does cost quite a bit and it makes things tighter.

Whats everyones honest opinion?

just think about all the "NEW" friends at school that you could take out on the boat..... Im picturing co-eds with bikinis etc etc etc

if you can swing it, keep it and post pics and you can thank me later hehe

keep it for a semester, you will know by then if it's practical, the fuel bill alone would be too much for most students.

Ussually I would say sell the boat. I was in the same situation a long time ago and finished school with no debt.
If you intend on getting another boat as soon as you graduate i would take a long look at the cost of a student loan versus finishing debt free and walking into a big boat loan. Might be cheaper to finance the school versus the boat later.

Good 4 U going back 2 school. But U need the boat 4 chill'n after all those hours of study and exams!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

I sold my boat before I went to chiropractic college. At the time is was a right move because it would have been another expense, even if it wasn't being used at all over the time I was in school. Now that I'm done, I wish I still had it, but I'll get my hands on something soon enough.

Short-term pain, Long-term gain! :drink:

I think he's getting hitched.....I'll doubt there will be any
"new" friends allowed ;)



I say keep it.

Will you be able to go a year and a half without one ?

I would/did go to a public university and pay about half as much. I've got a brother and friends who all went to high-end expensive private universities. I make more and have less debt - best of both worlds.

Either way, I would get rid of the boat. You can always find another Baja.

If you are getting married, sell the boat!

If you will stay single, then lower your other living expenses (i.e rent, car, etc) and keep the boat.

A couple of things in case this changes your thoughts.

1. I CAN afford it all and live comfortably, just tighter than without.

2. Yes I am getting engaged shortly, but not married till next year (another side note, she said DONT sell the boat. see why im marrying her)

3. I love it, just wonder how much time, and how much nicer it would be to save that money till schools over.
