Anyone Done This...

Just wondering it anyone has painted the bottom of their lower units like a satin silver,if so any pics and how did it last...I'm thinking in the spring ordering a new sticker kit for both outdrives and painting the lowers silver. Also has anyone ever extended their v-berth???I have a 89 272 and the v-berth is about a foot short,I want to do some more overnighting this upcomming season but would like a little more room to sleep.....

Get out the buffing wheel and polish those drives.

pshannon,
very nice formula. have you thought about filler cushions between the seats? i find there is more room to sleep using the filler cushions than in the v-berth.

I built a 2 ft extension in our 312 V-berth just for what your talking about...worked great but finally decided the entire boat needed an extension and bought a 382. If I can find pics I'll post them.
BTW: I removed the porta-potti and added A/C while I was at it too!!!

The early bed pic shows a window unit AC in the floor but we quickly decideed that was a PITA.

Yes, we do a lot of our lower units in silver. We have done red, and even checkered flag and have had no problems.

It's removeable....Just hooked on by the lip at the base of the bed and stays there by gravity. We simply lift the thing up 2-3 inches and slide it back onto the bed as you mentioned. Get it set to teh proper height and you'll sleep not even knowing it was there. (I added a 2 inch memory foam to the top when we overnighting)

I do mine with a flat black sandable primer. Looks pretty good and very easy to touch up, for those times when it's a little too shallow and the lower portion of the skeg gets into the sand. :D
