I know the new 6.2's are, but was the 2002 6.2 MX MPI Smartcraft compatible?

I drive a 2004 sea ray, for drinkin time, with a 6.2 and it has the smartcraft. So I would have to say atleast 2003

Re: Smartcraft compatibility - in particular for the 6.2?

I would say model year 2002 based on the fact that there is a Smartcraft computer on serial numbers higher than 0M300000 on the 6.2. And the first 6.2 in model year 2002 has serial number 0M320614.
I just used www.mercruiserparts.com and a Mercruiser by serial number / model year document. So I hope it is correct.

Re: Smartcraft compatibility - in particular for the 6.2?

It looks like best I can tell it was an option. It looks like you will have to buy a new computer to add it to the 2002 motors but it is really confusing. Probably have to guy a new harness as well? From what I Have always been told if you do not have it on a boat then don't think about adding/upgrading to it. The cost os so much that it is not worth it. Call Merc up for the best advice.....

Re: Smartcraft compatibility - in particular for the 6.2?

Yep - if I couldn't just "plug and play" it then I wasn't going to add it, like you said - just not worth the time and $$.

Thanks for all the info.

2002 was the first year of the ECM555/Smartcraft compatable MX 6.2 MPI engine. Installing a Smartcraft gauge or monitor on these engines is not difficult. Get the "Smartcraft Applications and Display Products Technical Guide" Merc part #90-891965. It will tell you everything you need to know.

LOL! Dude - "you ain't seen nutin' yet"! JK - trust me it gets MUCH better! My little guy rocks, but when he has his occasional melt-down, ouch! My secret!? (I have the best wife, mother and mother-in-law in the world!) Seriously, he's not even 2 yet and he's flown to San Fran. twice, Wash. DC and S. Carolina and he is a great traveler! But, trips like Grand Cayman - wife, no baby - keeps the wife very happy so, with the boat shows and "just the guys trips" - she is all good. Oh and the lake is a bonus for us too, like a mimi-vaca. every week. Just wait until you finish the house in ME, you'll see! BTW - the Donzi I had, I bought it cuz SHE "had to have it" - found out she was pregnant a couple weeks after the four of us did that PR, so... Sold it - and used the boy as an excuse to buy the new boat, "it is a much more toddler-friendly boat than the Whaler (we currently have) is, honey" - oh and she misses going fast too! Leverage the baby Jon - lol!

That S/C company is on my short list of things for the show, I'll get you all that info and bring it back with me - no worries!

Audiofn 02-12-2007 08:59 AM

SO what did you get for a new boat?

Yep - you got it, an '02 25'. It is crazy-clean, 130 hours on it, covers all the way around, and I bought it - gulp - sight-unseen! Had Frank (10x) go look at it for me, (he gave it a big thumbs-up) and with Shogrens rep. I figured I was safe. I'll fly out in a couple weeks to see it and then it's being hauled back to MA early March. Should make a great lake boat...

Audiofn 02-12-2007 06:06 PM

Cool you will love it!! I got a blower motor we can strap into that thing and really make it scarry!!!! :D:D

DoTheMath 02-13-2007 08:13 AM

Yeah, I figure if I really like it - I'll yank the 320 and have a little fun with replacing it! :D
