You should get something in the mail each year that you send back to them, and they will give you a new cert. If you look at your current certificate it has an expiration date on it. They will send you something a few months before that expiration date to get a new one. That will happen every year. It is free if you send it back in yourself.

I pay my documentation place $5 a year to do mine, just because if something happens where it gets lost in the mail or something, they take care of it for you. Never has happened, but the $5 is cheap for a safety net.

Ok I live in IL and have mine documented in MO, I use the boat in both states but have been told by IL D.O.C. that the boat has to be registered in the state you reside in. The way I read the law is that if you use the boat more than 75 consecutive days in this state you must register it there. Do I have to register it in any state if it is documented? Just curious. Thanks.

Rich.

A couple of goofy states require a State Sticker EVEN IF the boat is USCG Federally Documented. I don't know which ones off the top of my head.

Basically, if you Federally Document your boat with the USCG, your STATE does not need to know you own a boat. (However, check with them to make sure. As stated above, your State might be different.)

HOWEVER, your COUNTY/CITY might demand Personal Property Tax on all boats/vessels. THIS is where you may get dinged heartily.

WI makes you state register if USCG documented. You do not need numbers on outside of hull but WI stickers need to be on the stern on each side of boat name.

Yes, you should get a renewal in the mail.
I'd call them before I fax anything in. They are very easy to deal with in my experience.

Not sure about your comment about "goofy states." Some just require you to have a sticker and not state numbers. The sticker is actually a revenue sticker, in Mo it is like $30 for 3 years. Seems pretty nominal to me.
