NY......Documenting a boat??

Does anyone knows the laws here in NY when it comes to Coast Guard Documentation.......If I have my boat documented do I have to have it registered and pay uncle sam sales tax? What if I will be using the boat between Florida and NY? How about if I register it at my Florida address.......are the laws any different down south? I have searched many threads on this but can't seem to get a definate answer.........

I had to doc. mine for the bank and yes I still had to pay N.Y. sales tax and had to get reg #s also N.Y. sucks and they will get every pennie they can outa ya. If you can reg in Fla do it you can use it in N.Y. 6 months outa the year with fla reg after that you have to get N.Y. reg. good luck

Yes and it is 6% and you will have to pay the Florida Doc Stamp fee as well.

What if I register the boat in Florida and only use it there for say 30 days out of the year.....would that exempt me from Florida sales tax and also exempt me from registering it in NY because it is registered in Florida...........just looking to see if there are any loop holes in the system...........
