cockpit flooring ?

Need opinions on type of flooring for cockpit . Carpet or vinyl?
Cigarette is using some nice stuff. Anyone know the material or manufacturer?

Pirelli. I have it in the cockpit and cabin of my Active Thunder.

Lonseal

I used Lonseal vinyl diamond plate in the gun metal color. it looks great, cleans up nice, and surpisingly does not get hot in the sun. Everyone says they really like it! I would never go back to carpet.

Carpet is just a recepticle for sand, dirt, Doritos, spooge, beer, spunk, junk, salt, mold, and any other unwanted debris. It doesn't clean easy and smells after a while. It has no place in a boat IMHO. Lonseal is great stuff and I wouldn't hesitate putting it in my boat again. Look at the Loncoin II, it cleans well and looks great as well as it has a non-slip surface.

Lonseal as well...yellow Loncoin was in the cat and used silver diamond plate with the phantom, even in the engine comparment. Great way to go...save the carpet for the cabin...

Do you have to glue in the lonsel or can you just lay it in?

It can be glued in with their 2 part epoxy adhesive, or you can use contact cement if you feel you'll need to pull it up someday.

fantastixvoyage 02-26-2007 04:20 PM

I used contact cement...key is to let it sit up the entire time. It'll seem like it dry when you go to install it...it's not!!!! Locks in place upon contact. I have had problems with bubbling if used too soon. Nothing a heavy roller can't fix (rent one for the day from home depot or such)

The thing is I don't want to glue it . So I was wondering if its poss. not to? If its thick enough,Not to.

Curious how you would custom fit the Lonseal flooring (or pirelli for that matter)? Cut with an exacto? Roughly how much $$ per sq foot? Might be a good option in a couple years on the Supthen. Thanks

Steve_H 02-26-2007 09:09 PM

i had a boat done a few years go. if i remember right, material alone was around $400 for the cockpit and cabin.

Create a template of your cockpit and transfer it to the sheet of vinyl. I used 1/8" Lauan plywood and ripped it into 4" lengths. I created a perimeter template with it and used hot glue to keep it together, then layed it on top of my sheet of vinyl and cut the vinyl with the a utility knife. I used the same knife to cut the shapes in the lauan, it cuts very easily. For the radius areas or tricky curved areas on the perimeter I just sanded the lauan to get the shape. If you need more info, let me know, I think I have pics of the process somewhere.

too thin to just lay in, and it would slide very easy.
I have it in my mudroom and my work out room.

creeper 02-27-2007 08:29 AM

Thanks yzbert for some reason on another thread same question and every one wants to explain how to...And a simple answer (to thin) No, will move around......Thanks agian....For some reson I don't like to glue or drill fiberglass.I'll stick to carpet and throw it away every other year.

I found this in a car catalog I started getting. Less expensive, looks very similar, and comes in larger rolls to avoid seems. No personal experience with it, but looks like a less expensive alternative.
