38' Coyote Upgrades

Hi All,
First time posting here and thought I would ask for some advice.
We have a 1984 38' Coyote "Beep Beep". I'm sure the name might ring a bell to some.
Anyway, in 2003 we re-powered with twin 496HO's.
Castaline Marine rigged the boat but Jay has now since retired.
What I am basically looking for is some information on how to make Beep Beep Faster and Louder and do this without changing the motors out.
I have heard there are prochargers available and some other mods.
Right now we're running Speed master #3 drives.

Any advice?
Thanks

headers would be a good place to start.

A good thread to read:

Then you might look into blueprinting the hull. A hull that old could use a little work.

This is the guy to talk to for upgrading power on the 496HOs. Superchargers are great, but who wants the headaches?

Yup and will work the same way an I.E.D works on the streets of Baghdad.

496's are not capable of handling modifications for the long haul. 500EFI, 525EFI and up....absolutely.

496 + chargers = BOOM!

Others will say no way but the realist and those who have been in the business a long time will agree with me.

Fastest way to make anything faster is to make it lighter. What can you live without?

Welcome and you need to know about HORBA.

The race boat Beep Beep was a Cobra and it was of the 70's era. Your boat, if it is a Coyote from the 80's, may have used that name after the race boat of the 70's.

Post some photos .

Check it out www.historicraceboats.com

I had a 79' 34R Coyote, these boat are tanks in big water. I have never been in a 38' but I do not think the 496 is a very good choice to run with transmissions and Speedmasters. You might want to get some cubic inches and little more torque. Just my .02

Hi All,
Well looks like everyone is trying to point us towards Raylar.
Thanks for all the advice.
Offshoreracr if you wouldnt mind please giving me more detail on your thoughts I would greatly appreciate it.
With these motors I'm pretty sure we are under propped or the pitch isnt right. Top speed is only around 60mph.
Rev limiters kick in before I can start trimming the drives.

To answer a few. Yes this boat was named after Beep Beep which raced in the 70's by Halpern.
The boat originally had the road runner and Mr. Coyote on the side until we updated the paint job. We still have intentions of replacing the graphics one day possibly. I took very detailed photos. It is my understanding that Jean Claude Simon was going to build 11 of these but only was able to comepete this one. The build started in 81/82 and was finally titled in 1984.

Here are some of the before and after shots.

Beep Beep....your boat comes from my 38 foot mold...the first boats made were banana boats. I hired JC Simon to design an Open class race boat for me.

I built the 38 and the 34 out of the same mold and sold them as banana boats. JC Simon later used the same mold and built Coyotes .....but the mold was eventually sold to Sonic....they added a swim platform on the back and that is now their 42 footer.

Here are some shots of the first boats out of the mold. I raced teh same 38 footer as Top Banana in 79 and Rums of Puerto Rico in 80.

1st call julie @ throttle up. Maybe you just need the right props to get more speed. that would be the 1st thing i'd check on.
