I am having the same situation with this other guy. He actually set something up through what appears to ba an ebay account. He did call. It could possibly be legit and if it is, I plan on pursuing the deal. I am having ebay verify this transaction for me because I am being instructed to wire transfer money to a bank in Eastern Russia. Not really sure how legit that is. I would rather take a check or cash to the guy and have hime hand me the title. He will not do that, and that is why it seems a little fishy to me.

I would be very careful with any big ticket items affiliated with ebay right now.

It appears that a Romanian hacker who calls himself 'Vladuz' has managed to break into the highest levels of ebay's system. He has been selling software tools that exploit the ebay system- mainly to Chinese and East European hackers- that aide in the creation and maintenace of phony auctions.

Ebay's main response has been to take down any threads on their message boards regarding the situation. They have also suspended the accounts of members who dared comment on those threads. They HAVE recently stopped sales of certain types of items from China and other areas to the US because of the recent spike in incidents. (mostly antique collectibles, jewelry, etc)

If you can believe what you read, and it appears to be legit-- it is a very scary story- as it looks like the hackers have access to EVERYTHING and have the ability to do things like redirect Paypal payments to their accounts, and picking and choosing which members' accounts to compromise. Some investigators have noticed their ability to create auctions from member names IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER, as though they were being picked off a list.

Yikes. When I first read about this last night the first thing I did was go change my password, but I wonder if it would even do any good. I wonder if ebay can even do anything about this? Scary. Read some for yourself:

This is right in line with what I have experienced so far. I have copies of the ebay stuff that was sent to me just in case it is ever needed. This stuf looks exactly like something ebay would send, and it is very well written. I will post some of what I have gotten. I will leave other parts off because of personal info. Havn't lost any money yet though. Trying everything I can to protect that account.

AT FIRST GLANCE I REALLY THOUGH THIS LOOKED LEGIT:

Dear,

The transaction for "2006 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER HSE #.........................."
is registered in our data base .
We have sent you instructions to wire the payment in our bank account.
Due to the overwhelming number of transactions
mediated during this period our partner banks can't always
cope with the load, thus eBay had widened it's scopes, employing
some of the best banks in Europe for the transactions mediated.
All of the partner banks are picked based on the results of a survey
which includes the bank's results over the last 24 months for
short-medium term deposits and general performance indicators.
The nominated account is the eBay escrow account for
this transaction. It is not a seller's personal account, and is
totally controlled by our account manager. You can rest assured that you
will be protected by our security policy, and can continue with this
transaction per the initial
instructions.
We hereby take full responsibility for the security and the
confidentiality of the transfer.

As soon as we receive your payment confirmation we will contact the
seller and instruct him to proceed with the shipping.

We will hold the payment until you send us your confirmation that you
are satisfied with the product(s) you received.
eBay does not have the authority to release the funds to the seller
before you will confirm that you are satisfied with the item received.
An inspection period of 15 days will be given to you to inspect the
item shipped. The inspection period begins on the working day (Monday -
Friday) after the goods have been received and continues for the number of
working days set. The day the goods are received is established according
to the consignment date indicated by the courier or the transport company
May I also remind you that refunds take 3 workign days to
be processed, and are done on the basis of a "no questions asked"
policy. As soon as we receive your confirmation we will release the
payment to the seller.

eBay Safe Harbor confirms that you fully protected in the transaction
with the seller.

Purchase Protection covers buyers who complete an item transaction on
eBay for the following types of deliberate and material misrepresentation
by the seller:
Paying for an item and never receiving it.
Sending a deposit for an item and never receiving the item.
Paying for and receiving an item:

-that was a stolen vehicle at the time of the transaction;
-with an undisclosed or unknown lien against its title;
-of a make and/or model that is different than what was described in the
seller's listing;

The program covers all types of fraud and material misrepresentation.
The insurer of this transaction is eBay Inc.
This transaction is supervised by eBay's SafeHarbor team.

Sincerely,
Robbie H

eBay Safe Harbor
Customer Service Dept.

......
I figured ebay would be able to afford a spell check program to check for typo's though.

I have sent all of this stuff to ebay for investigation.

There is a guy selling Trs drives/parts and mirage props in Drive section out of Manchester, Ct. for $1500. Stay away! His name is Ed. I bought his old boat and he swapped the drive off it and gave me a busted TRS. He's selling a good one that came off the boat I bought. Be careful. I do not know why these people can't just be honest...I guess it's just not their nature. OSO is doing a great job watching out for these crooks! Keep it going...list names and numbers.

Range Rover is confirmed scam. I would assume since Mercedes is also same guy, that it is to. This is what ebay sent me this morning. This is a good thread. good info on it.

Thank you for writing eBay in regard to the message you have received
about "Payment information for eBay Safe Harbor - item 2006 LAND ROVER
RANGE ROVER HSE #SALMF13476A204908."

While the email may appear to be associated with or sent by eBay, it is
not. At this time, you should consider blocking this email address
through your email program. Normally, this can be accomplished by
setting mail filters. Doing this should eliminate repeat emails from
this address entering your inbox. For instructions on setting up
filters, you should review the help section of your email program or
contact your email provider.

As you are aware, email solicitations for outside of eBay transactions
are prohibited on eBay and are a violation of our user agreement. In
addition, eBay does not act as an escrow service and is not responsible
in handling transactions between the seller and the winning bidder. eBay
will never hold money or item on behalf of an auction.

Please be aware that eBay discourages all transactions, which are
initiated by parties other than the seller and the winning buyer in a
completed eBay listing. Sales that take place outside of eBay carry a
potential fraud risk and are not eligible for eBay services, including
feedback, contact information requests, and the eBay Standard Purchase
Protection Program. You can review the services provided through the
eBay Standard Purchase Protection Program at:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/tp/isgw-b...ion-steps.html

In addition, we do not recommend the use of instant cash wire transfer
services such as Western Union and MoneyGram, and we ask that users
decline sending payment in cases where these are the only methods of
payment offered by the seller. Generally, if payment is sent using an
instant cash wire transfer service and the item is not delivered as
promised, no recourse is available for recovering funds. In most cases,
an escrow service should be used when purchasing high dollar value
items. More information on the benefits and risks of individual payment
methods can be found at:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/pay/payment.html

eBay urges caution when purchasing high-priced items, especially if the
price seems too good to be true.

If you are ever concerned about an email you receive from eBay, simply
follow these steps:

1. Open a new Web browser and type www.ebay.com into your browser
address field to go directly to the eBay site.

2. On eBay, sign into your account and click the "My eBay" button at the
top of the page.

3. Check the My Messages section located at the top of the My eBay page.

If an email affects your eBay account, it's now in My Messages. Any
email sent to your registered eBay email address from eBay or from
another eBay member via eBay's member-to-member communication system
will now appear in My Messages.

We are committed to making your eBay experiences pleasant and
fulfilling.

Sincerely,
Meira

Ad number is 13866. His name is Ed Juselis in Manchester, CT. Tell him (only because he won't return my calls and hangs up when I do call), He can keep his ad on OSO when I get my LH TRS and the 23p Mirage he's selling in the ad for the good drive he is also selling. Thanks for concern.
Nick.
