Fountain vs. Outerlimits driving caracteristics???

Hi, what is the difference when it comes to -feeling behind the wheel- in a approx. 40 ft boat of both brands? Which feels best to operate and why?? Some said an Outerlimits felt like a block of concrete in the sea. Well, i suppose they meant the rigidness of the hull, not the feel of lacking lift to the hull.

What's your opinion? Also when turning, 5 mph in 7 ft. sea, docking, diagonal wind and wave conditions etc....

Welcome Outerlimits in Germany, Viernheim - or what was the name of the village? That village is next to MUCKENSTURM, right?
Direct translation of MUCKENSTURM into English: (Here we go. Boy, I cant write that. That is more than I can stand and I can stand a lot. No, I will stop. I am too shy.)

Okey: MUCKENSTURM = PUNKIESTORM

Oh god, I did it again.

The welcome is seriously meant. We are keen to see you racing or to see at least the TV / videos.

You ask an honest question I'll give you an honest anserw. I think Outerlimits is a better handliong boat. My anserw is based on the fact that I have been in both a 42 Ol and a 42 Fountain with very similar power. I thought the fountain was very unstable at high speed were as on the Outrerlimits it was like we were riding in a 52 foot sportfish doing a 100mph. As for the turning I cant anserw that fairly because I was not driving, I think the driver could tell more about how that feels. Happy St. Paddy's day!!! I might start a little early, were suppose to get like 6" of snow friday and friday night!

runafever 03-15-2007 06:06 PM

I have driven both a 42 Legacy and a 42 lightning. First off a baby could drive a 42 lightning at 100mph holding a rattle in one hand and a bottle of baby formula in the other. Fountain very stable and solid at speed anyone who says different is lying about haveing driven one because a stag 42 is one of the best handeling bottoms out there. The 42 Legacy handles very well as well. The boat flies level and feels rock solid at speed. Can definately feel the weight difference as I was in my buddies 02 Leg that was not an epoxy lay up. I did not think the boat chewed the rough up any better than a 42 lightning. Both very cool boats and rock solid. I am not biased because I am a Fountain owner but anyone who has pushed a 42 lightning offshore knows that it is a hell of a hull. All responses to this post are welcome. I am going to the fridge for a beer I'll be back in a little bit to check on you guys.

First let me just say that I do like Founatains, I think they are a distinct looking offshore boat and they will be around for a long time. MY experiance in a 42 Fountain was not enjoyable. thats all I am going by, to be honest with you.I have been in both epxoxy and vinylester 42 OL both great rides. Those are just my experiances and .02 cents.Take it for what it is worth! Bottom line is I love performance boats just like everyone else here, I'm just expressing myself here on this open forum.

Since the inception of SBRT my OUTERLIMITS has brought class to the organization,I will be running for club president when that seat is up for vote.

Aside from the ride, the price will keep 95% of the folks that want an O.L. from buying one. That being said, I do not think that an O.L. can ride twice as nice as a Beaker boat. With the price disparity, I can buy two Beakers for the price of one O.L.

The OL will be twice as dry of a ride though. The fountain is a wet ride....bring clothes with you.

why dont you just do a search on this topic, you will find 5 days of reading....

runafever 03-16-2007 09:02 AM

I can agree with the Fountain being a little wetter than the OL. That is just the nature of the beast. The OL has a lot more freeboard. Fountains can only get a little wet in following seas. The 42 will smack em down in head on seas though and be dry. All you guys have to remember though the wheelman has a lot to do with the ride. IF you have a numnutz that can't operate his equipment properly it can make for a scary and or wet ride.

Sounds like a good way to stay on top of it

OL40SVX 03-16-2007 10:06 AM

The Outerlimits is twice the boat the Fountain is in all areas. No disrespect to the Fountain, it is one of the best 42 hull's out there. It is a wet ride in all big sea conditions. If your not going fast the bow doesn't like to lift and it feels like your going to stuff. I have quite a bit of experience in a 2003 42 Lightning in all types of water and have been in an 42OL at 108mph. For the money though you cant beat a 42 Fountain. Just my .02

RJ1340 03-25-2007 06:55 PM

Boston Irish: Did you know spelled "answer" wrong three times in one post? Can you anserw why you think you did that? Is it some kind of psycho-typo thing?
