Definitely a somber day for this country!
|
I didn't loose anybody in my family or extended family on 9/11. However, a very close friend at work lost his only child, a daughter,
who was an airline stewardess onboard United's Flight 93, which crashed in a field in Pennsylvania after crew & passengers fought back against the hijackers. My friend left work and never came back. He and I had dinner a few weeks later and maybe I just imagined it, but he looked older and though he was his usual kind self, his eyes had lost their spark. A few months later he sent a postcard from Peru to us workmates. He had left the country as a teenager when political violence was rampant. We all knew he still had plenty of family there, and to this day I think of him, Vittorio, every 9/11, and when I see a classic Ferrari. He was a true Ferrarista and one of the best Ferrari mechanics here in SoCal, where he had his own shop for decades. |
Never ever forget :(
