50 ft Welcraft Meteor

I am searching for anyone who know these boats and have
any experience with them.
I have just bought a 50 ft meteor that is ready for a complete restoration with new engines.
The plan is to put in 2 diesel engines.
So, if anyone has any suggestions, pictures, links or, well anything for this restoration project i would really appreciate to hear from you.
The boat is located in the US and will be moved to Norway later this year after.

For this project i am looking for the following: Diesel engines
, Drives, Trailer, Generator, Interior and so on.

Best Regards
Peder

Hope you considered how to get it CE approved, I hear Norway are really though on this subject.

Apart from that congrats on your purchase !

I would suggest discussing the your power and drive needs with Randy at Konrad as one option to consider. They had an engine drive package at the Miami Boat Show that might work.

cariveau 03-04-2007 02:02 PM

If you need any other advice about the boat itself you could check with Todd at Revolution Marine. He has had a 50 Meteor for years. I think he is ready to sell it and try something different.

Thanks!
Yes it can be difficult, but if you do it by the book it is no problem. It will cost me around 5500 Usd, that includes making new manuals for the boat, and the actual inspection by the representative from IMCI.

Here is one!
This is today.

I am looking at a pair of Seatek (600hp) Diesels,(used) but i have no experience with these so i dont know yet.

I am also considering Caterpillar or Cummins (450 - 500 hp),
Arneson would be nice, but they are very expensive.

Peder,
There is a 50' Meter in Portland OR that has been under restoration for about 2 years. The dealer that is doing the work probably has some insight into these boats. I can get the number if you need it. Good luck - Jeff

monstaaa 03-04-2007 05:16 PM

i maintain a 50 for a customer, she has triple 600 blower motors. he is considering converting to diesel too. i suggested he go with the larger yanmars and bravo duo props, as i did this to a triple engine 48 super hawk and lost nothing. cruise improved, top speed too and the fuel economy went from about 130 n.m to 300+. good luck with your project.

cigracing1 03-04-2007 06:30 PM

My good freind redid this one and it was nice. He recently sold and the new onwer has basically destroyed. Anway the 3 yanmars is the way to go. http://www.boattraderonline.com/deal....html?76479270

Nothing like the current Nortech 5000v, thanks for the photo's, never seen the original Nortech, when was this boat built?

Spine Tingler 03-05-2007 07:35 PM

The NorTech reminds me of the meteor. Still one of the coolest layouts ever.

Downtown42 03-06-2007 09:08 AM

How much does the 50 Meteor weigh?

That's an 18,000 lb. boat, has about a 9' 6 " beam as I recall.

Flip flop here on lake Erie has one for sale with new cats and arnesons, -- everything done -- it would easily be the cheaper way rather than buying everything and rigging it. It's an 89' also and is a very good looking boat.

Is this the blue and gray Meteor that has been for sale on different websites?

It's in bad shape because its not taken care of. When he got back from the Miami Boat show run he won't even pay American Offshore to wash so they just put it up. Over the New Year he took a large wave over the bow on the way to Key West and he didn't have the hatches tightened down so he soaked his cabin and I'm soaked it. The cabin till this day has not been cleaned from the soaking.

The 50 Meteor has always been the boat i was dreaming of since i was 6 years old....saw one once at the Genova Boat Show Back and i still have a poster of it somewhere....

2 more pics. He keeps on Lake Texoma and also takes it down to FLorida Powerboat Club runs. www.guardadomarine.com Guardado did the cabin work and he's by far one of the best down there. He also did the cabin in the all white 50 with the 3 Yanmars.

just as Tough as any other European country....

But on a second hand boat it doesn´t apply a boating magazine over here informed (Yet...) and If the seller/builder is building it non-commercially ie. as a personal boat.

I´d go with triple 5.9 cummins diesels or two some big truck inline sixes.
Mack E12 series comes to mind first.
Multivalve 12 liter diesels, can be found in Renault Magnum Big Rigs. with 430-470hp plus A LOT of torque (2000+ ft.lbs).

Saw one black and white live at Miami Bayside 1993 and that confirmed me if I´m ever going to that size of boat what to look for.
