Here are some photos of the camera installation on Mike Bobbitt’s 40 Skater “Risky Business”…… DeckCam Installation We didn’t want to make any additional holes on the deck, so we used the starboard sponson latch bracket….. The first bracket was too low, so you could REALLY see a persons head in the video…. We didn’t want to make it too tall, but tall enough for a 6’ person to sit and not get in the video…. Also, the first mount was made from ¾” aluminum round stock and vibrated too much over 150 MPH…. The mounting bracket on the rear/middle seat back is actually two part…. The first is just a flat plate that screws to the back of the seat….. This bracket uses (6) counter-sunk screws that run through the seat back material and into the fiberglass backing….. The second plate with the camera mount, attaches to the first via tapped holes…. This plate also prevents the counter-sunk screws from backing out...... The camera clamp bracket is made from 3 sections….. The top two sections clam-shell the camera which is surrounded by a thin flat piece of rubber….. The bottom plate allows for not only up/down adjustment, but also has a couple degrees of side-to-side play….. We machined each of the four bottom holes in a boomerang shape to allow for some play…. Without that play, it would be hard to align the camera exactly in the center….. Recorders
The small rack section is mounted in the port sponson…. The top portion is the 12VDC/8.4VDC power supply… The cameras are 12VDC….and wouldn’t you know it, the recorders are 8.4VDC…. Why they couldn’t make them 12VDC is beyond me….That would be way too easy…. We also filtered the 12VDC to get rid of the alternator noise….. The next panel down supports the buss bars that distribute the DC power to the devices… The last panel down is a audio distribution amplifier….. This device splits/amplifies the intercom audio to both recorders…. The Sony GVD-800 clam-shell recorders are attached to the plate using industrial Velcro…..They have NEVER moved…... They use Hi8 tapes..... It’s nice to have the small screens to align the cameras before a run…. Both recorders are turned on/off simultaneously via a small remote button in the cockpit…. http://www.hotboat.com/image_center/...7-2005_002.jpg Hope this helps…..
