Help! Winterization question re: freezing
 

I just got my boat back from the dealer. It is now unwinterized. I didn't put it back into storage. It is supposed to get down to freezing tonight for about 2 hours (low is 30) Do I need to be worried about cracking my block or will it be ok till it is inside tomorrow night. Please advise ASAP anybody!

Is it in an area where you could run an extension cord with a trouble light with a 40 or 60 Watt bulb to the engine compartment overnight?

I would think your okay for just the two hrs under freezing (espicially 30*). I would put a drop light in the bilge for extra precaution if your real worried about it. I think you have nothing to worry about.

The dealer says it needs to be below freezing for 12-24 hours before it cracks the block. Does that sound right? I am in TN so the hard freezes are over. It was 79 two days ago. I only put it in the driveway because I didn't want to drop the tower and put it into the storage unit.

You will be okay...the average high temps through out the day with modest lows in the night won't (shouldn't) crack your block. For insurance I would throw a bulb in the bilge though. Im going out this Sun. with lows that night in the 20's and I will be putting a drop light in. :evilb:

Maybe throw a thermal blanket on the motor and cover your vents as well.

Is your boat in the water or on trailer? Ive heard its better for the boat to be in the water to guard agains freezing in low temps.

I have it on the trailer.
