sea strainers

Can anyone give a good summary of the advantages and disadvantages of running sea strainers?

By the end of summer, many of the destinations around Lake Erie, the Detriot River, and Lake St Clair have been inundated with sea-weed. I have low water pick-ups and tend to suck up debris mostly while docking. Open water is not as much of a problem.

I will backflush my system occasionally or when I think I am restricted. Really don't have much room on the dash for water pressure guages.

There are no "bads" to sea strainers!!! They can save you from damage and headaches. I put an 8" KPM in my Fountain because of the sea grass and sand that likes to find its way in there. Definitely get them!

I would not be without Sea Strainers. I also think a water pressure gauge is one of the most important gauges on a boat. Eliminate the volt meters and put some in your dash.

Can't see not using them, it's boating 101. I use KPM 9" with the multiple outs, I am taking a feed for my AC unit off of one of them as well.
