RIB Opinions and Evinrude VS. Yamaha
We are looking at a Zodiac RIBS and also Brig RIBS.
Anyone have any experience with either of these? We like the ease of tube replacement on the Zodiac. The Brigs is a lot less money.... We are also not sure about the Yamaha vs. the Etecs. The Yamaha is less weight then the Etec and the Etec is more money by a bit. I do know that the etec is more torque then the Yamaha...... Any help would be great. Jon |
AMF/GEICO just purchased one of Steve Curtis's 10 meterCougar ribs for a Safety boat (2x 300xs). Jim Dyke manufactures the 8 meter Cougar RIB line here in the states

Don't know too much about Brigs, but Zodiacs are excellent RIBs. The company in general has a rich history and always stays on top with cutting edge tech in their boats. Although we have a Cadet 280, Zodiac has always been great to deal with as well, so those factors combined make it worth the price difference.
Zodiac has great boat show deals on all their lines, and even better ones with non-current or demo model lines, so this might be something to consider when purchasing. Alot of dealers pair up Zodiacs with Yamaha powerplants, I think their jetboat today still uses a Yamaha engine (correct me if I'm wrong). Regardless, I'd go with the Yamaha because of their huge network, efficiency and not to mention their legendary reliability.... We've had a 4, 9.9, 25, 90 and 115 over the years, all with ZERO problems |
What size range are you thinking?

Yamaha is the way to go. They are proven and much easier to get serviced in the northeast.

yep, yamaha. I've got twin 250's on the cc, bought new in 2000. 8 years later, not one problem. Also have a 6hp yamaha bought new in 1990, not one problem. starts on the first pull still.

I don't have any experience with the Brig or the Zodiac, but if you get the opportunity, have a look at a Caribe. I have one and it is awesome. It is 10.5' and is rated for a 20! The tubes are BIG making it extremely stable. I only put a 9.9 on mine and it will plane off very easily with 2 adults...
We also used 2 of them in the Carribean...an 8 footer and a larger center console version...great boat all around. |
