Anyone got a used swim platform
Looking for a used swi platform that I can either bolt up or modify to fit my Scarab. Thanks.
|
Try ebay. "Speed4u" has been selling a number of them from $500-$800. I just got one for $700..freight was $200. Getting it repowder coated which is a bit pricey since they need to strip the old stuff off. All in all, should be able to get a used one with new powder coat for about $1100....which is better than the alternative ($2000).

Yougot a link to the old auction? I tried to find him on ebay, but he doesn't show up. I can add him to my watch list if I can get a link to old auction.

Pretty cheap process. |

I would think stripping it would be pretty cheap - sand blast, clean, re-coat.

Sandblasting a well done powdercoat job is not feasible. You will damage the piece before you get it all off. You need to soak the piece in aircraft stripper solvent to get the PC off.
I work in vacuum coatings for optics, all the tooling is stainless, and we have a large sandblaster to clean the tooling. This stuff is tough to get off. But it is a much thinner coat (i'm talking nano's). Maybe because it's stainless, and probably quite a bit thicker than what the walls of the tube would be. Thanks for pointing that out. |
I bought one from speed4you off ebay paid $1300 , it fit great and the condition was better than described...e mail them and Marcy will give you her # they will list one that fits your boat if they have one..They seemed to have several in april when I bought mine...

I bought one from Baddog last winter for $800.00 it had a couple small dents and dings. I filled the dents and had it powdercoated for $200.00. So now I have a new Extreme Marine swim platform for $1000.00 :D :D :D

Sorry, misspelled the name...it's Speed4u0 Marcy is the gal I delt with. I encouraged her to add a freighting option to get a broader audience. I mean, how many offshore boat owners you going to find in Ohio?..lol...
Marcy seems to get an unusual backlog of used stuff. One season, she was selling a bunch of Gaffrig gages (which I got a complete twin engine set for $250)...now, she hardly sells them anymore. Now, she has a run of hard to find platforms. Suggest you get one now....she may not have a continuous supply judging her past auctions. Here are a few previous listings. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...8510680&rd=1,1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3916781&rd=1,1 The powder coating is pricey. Stripping requires a gel that chemically softens it up. Then blasted, cleaned, primed with marine primer...powder coated. $350. The other option I had was another guy who burns the powder coating, bead blasts it, primer...powder coat for $450. But still...a "like" brandy new platform for a good deal less than new. |

I just made a platform for my Cigarette out of Iroko. It's a wood very similar in grain and density as teak. Worked out great and looks awesome. Drop me an email and I'll give you all the details.

You can have my teak one for free. Hate to see it get thrown out and refuse to keep it in my garage since I bought this aluminum one. All you need to do is pay shipping from Florida.

Jeff, what did you finally decide on and buy? I'm looking for one now for my 1990 34' Scarab.

Just for yucks, I thought you might appreciate what could have been a complete and total catastrophic failure if the integrity of the transom was any question. The starboard side of the platform that wrapped around the hull was the starting point of the entire loss. I've heard of at least one other Scarab with a similar design losing his platform the same way. Caulk and screws on the side = bad design. |

Here's the "before", note the platform wrapped around the hull, facing oncoming water and waves. In flat water, no problem. In heavy waves, problem.

Doing well, good to hear from you. Man that is beautiful!! I love the graphic detail you added.
Any advice or recommendations, price estimates, sources, tricks to installing, etc. ? PM or send me the details, that's pretty much what I'm looking for. Nice job. |
The platform is is off a 88 Top Gun ,easy mounting I thru bolted all the top mounts with alum Backing plates..Stainless screwed the lowers(with sealent of course ), The finish is sprayon bed liner and they added the logo...I just saw two alum platforms on e-bay but they sold..$300 ea ! make shure if you get one it has 4 mounting brackets..I've see some with just the two outside, and they sag in the middle when you stand on them...I keep my eyes out to see if I come across any more...still waiting for my new motors to come back from the builder !..650 hp- 680ftlbs :party-smiley-048: :cool-smiley-011:
