No chain needed. I've had the Large for 5 seasons, and swear by it. Only one time it would not hold, and that was when the entire riverbed was full of hydrilla that was 2-3 feet tall.

Don't skimp on anchor size. While we only shop for our own boat; it never fails that you have your anchor nice and set, and 3 friends roll up and want to raft you. I've held as many as 6 boats with the single Large Box Anchor; on the Potomac River.

It may be heavy, but realize there is no chain to hoist. Even if the anchor breaks loose when the boat spins by current/breeze, the anchor flips over and re-sets itself.

Pics of ideal (for me) way to store it:

I've got my box 100' of line. ( Go ahead GL, fire away.)

I have a second jet-ski size folding grappling hook anchor that I keep on a 50' line. I use this to keep the aft end from swinging when I want to stay put, or to keep the transom toward the beach.

There is no setting, or pulling, or tugging to get it set. Just throw it overboard, and kill the motor(s). A quick tug on the line just to make sure it did not land on end, and you are good.

I just bought the large box anchor. galvanized. Easy to store. They are selling new ones on EBAY. Save you some cash.
