recommendations for an anchor?
New boat arrives shortly (Donzi 35ZR) starting to get ready to outfit it.
Question is any recommendations for an anchor? Boating will be in the Chesapeake Bay (sand and mud bottom), any thoughts on type, brand and weight would be appreciated. Thank you. |

I agree...do a search on the Box Anchor. I gave my Fortress away after a season with the Box Anchor. |
Box Anchor hands down. I have been using one for years, and love it. Ask Docmanrich37 how well mine works compared to his. :D

Did you box anchor owners buy one size larer than it says you need, or stick w/ their recomendations?
|
I just placed an order on the box anchor. Are you guys not using chain with this anchor?
I bought the recomended size. |
Box Anchor

No chain needed. I've had the Large for 5 seasons, and swear by it. Only one time it would not hold, and that was when the entire riverbed was full of hydrilla that was 2-3 feet tall.
Don't skimp on anchor size. While we only shop for our own boat; it never fails that you have your anchor nice and set, and 3 friends roll up and want to raft you. I've held as many as 6 boats with the single Large Box Anchor; on the Potomac River. It may be heavy, but realize there is no chain to hoist. Even if the anchor breaks loose when the boat spins by current/breeze, the anchor flips over and re-sets itself. Pics of ideal (for me) way to store it: http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=72668 |

I've got my box 100' of line. ( :D Go ahead GL, fire away.)
I have a second jet-ski size folding grappling hook anchor that I keep on a 50' line. I use this to keep the aft end from swinging when I want to stay put, or to keep the transom toward the beach. There is no setting, or pulling, or tugging to get it set. Just throw it overboard, and kill the motor(s). A quick tug on the line just to make sure it did not land on end, and you are good. |
i got the large... to big gonna get the small for this season... holds like a son of a *****

Any Ford engine would work as well

Tie a knot around DT42's head and throw his sorry AZZ over!!:evilb:

I just bought the large box anchor. galvanized. Easy to store. They are selling new ones on EBAY. Save you some cash.

Ya must of caught a pipe line or a stump:rolleyes: :drink: I see one line on the rear? |
yeah it was off the rear in the pic, there were other anchors out originally but we swung around and the box was the only one that caught and it did hold us all night.

Has anyone had a problem with the box anchor?
|
If it was a little heaiver it might not drag as bad? Danforth Tpye anchors are good for sand or mud bottoms. Hinged Plow anchors....Sand, weeds, rocks. Non-hinged Plow..........Sand, weeds, mud. Claw type....................Sand, rocks. Box type......................Sand, weeds, mud, rocks. |
