Air shift crash boxes

I have been trying to master the art of docking with crash boxes. I give up. It is so confusing. It's about 5 steps every time you want to shift . I don't think transmissions will hold up to the 1550's in the boat. I need an alternative. Someone said they have air shift crash boxes. Anyone have any info? If you know of another alternative, please let me know. Thank you

SCS gearbox has shiftable zero drag crashboxes.I dont think they will support 1550HP with their clutch setup. It might.www.scsgearbox.com

Call Tonto he is the master from what I hear!!! :D

Chris Sunkin 04-23-2007 09:30 AM

I'd give Weismann a call.

Hey Gino, As you know we shift crash boxes and have learned a few tricks to make it easier. Give arruda a call he may be able to help. One thing we learned was to shift into reverse (while outside the marina ) after running hard to unseat the gears. Then prooceed to the dock

We use SCS gearboxes. 25 races and still going strong

SCS does them. I looked into it. The dry clutch pack is similar to top fuel drag race cars. They should be able to handle a puny 1550 hp compared to 6000hp. About 10k a side.

check with Racecrafters, they are running airshift crashboxes on the 40 ft skater Sorcerer and they are running twin 2000 hp's http://www.sorcererboating.com/racec...prodClutch.htm

A drag race clutch should handle this power. I'll assume the SCS is a drag race clutch with some kind of "non-foot" actuation.

But........clutch housing may change the motor location, or require shorter drive shafts (assuming you have them).

Gino, Call vinnie with the 40 skater Bad, He has what you may be looking for, Loves them...

SCS is the way to go, Race Crafter's uses SCS's !

Mike Sage has refined it to work even better.
It now has to air systems in the event your shifting a lot
the air can keep up with you. Also the is a micro switch
that was corrected to make it work correctly instead of
hit and miss. All this has to be used with NEW Latham throttles, cause they build them to work with Mike's / SCS
system.

So with the air shifter you don't have to shut down the motor and can shift like you have transmission?

SCS quoted me 16000 for the pair.

Dont know what comes in the kit.

But this is what you need.
Machined flywheels
Under block starters
12 volt air compressor with tank.
micro switches located in the throttles.
( I beleave they have incorperated them in the Neutral saftey
switches so you dont need them in the throttles)

SCS can answer all your questions.

There are also a coulple of used ones I have been
scoping in the neighborhood of 8000 for the pair.

The only way to go with Big power and big boats

Gerry

If he does give up and give you the boat, you can give me his old boat that you were asking for in another thread.
You and I can tear up the water together in both of Gino's boats.
We all know the stories - this would probably be a much safer move for him, with his bad-luck and all.
With his luck, the life insurance premiums gotta be draining him - this would be a method of cutting his expenses.:D

Gino - good luck with the new boat - and remember, keep the tow vehicle dry when launching.:D

Speed Racer here, I have them in Big Speed (the pleasure version of Speed Racer) And they do hold up and work great, never any problems if they are set up properly. You really need to know how to work them, it just takes time, but I love them in my boat. Do it the easy way and just buy SPEED RACER, Buy the best and only cry once.

Just remember, do not approach the dock any faster than you want to hit it.

I've been using them for a couple of years in Freedom US1 and they work great!!! Be sure to put switches on the dash or somewhere convenient to give you positive control over the air clutch. They have shifters available with microswitches to make it seem like your shifting a regular transmission but I have found that they don't work some times and its best to use the manual toggle switches for positive control. Its the only way to go with big power and park at poker runs.:D
