Speakers?

I know its been talked about before but....What are some brands good ones and bad ones ?

cfischer 04-25-2007 03:39 PM

Use MB Quarts or JL Audio!!

creeper 04-25-2007 03:43 PM

JL's seem like big money ? For speakers..But then again thats why I started this..

boss252 04-25-2007 04:10 PM

JL's do cost more, but they are hard to beat for power handling and sound quality. That's what I run in my boat.

Prostreeter 04-25-2007 04:15 PM

Diamond audio.Unbeleiveable sound quality for the money.Just had 4 speakers and an amp installed in my boat and it rocks the water.

thisistank 04-25-2007 04:30 PM

JL 10" W6's (older) subs to Percision Power (PPI) 400 watt 4 channel amp with Diamond Audio mids/highs int he truck and a complete Eclipse system in the boat with 4 400 watt amps, 2 12 inch subs and 8 sets of seperates. I have no problems with any of the stuff I have, as a matter of fact I love it all!!

fazznick 04-25-2007 05:42 PM

I second diamond audio. Crystal clear and loud enough to break eardrums!

Just the stock two in the boat with the isolator switch. I've never had a problem. When we're sitting for hours at a time I just switch to one battery then switch back to both to start. Never fails.

Never even heard of them...Do you have a link? Are they more or less than JL?

JohnnyZ 04-25-2007 09:08 PM

Does anyone have the Alpine 7" marine type-R speakers? We had a boat with the 6.5" type-S speakers and liked them but we weren't running much power.

BW/NY 04-25-2007 09:24 PM

best waterproof speakers I have ever seen are polyplanar. it takes a lot of power to push them but they will absolutely scream... I have a JBL amp now pushing 8 clarions with 2 subs and still doesn't compare to 4 polyplanars with 2 subs... just my .02

Kickers are decent and sound very nice.

Andy Buzz 04-26-2007 11:11 PM

Babb speakers are back with their new and improved. They now use neodenium magnets that are smaller for easier install. They handle more power and play louder than ever. I also have Alpine, Bazooka, and am placing a Diamond order next week.

Whatever you need, feel free to call.

I just put some Memphis Audio's in mine, and I'm really happy on how they sound. They're just run off the head unit and still sound pretty decent. I found them on Ebay, brand new, and they area marine speaker.

88formula223 04-27-2007 09:20 AM

I agree with the JL w6's they are great I have 2 12". but I don't have the room for them in the boat so I bought 2 Memphis audio 8" subs and am happy with them but I am going to add 2 10" this spring if I can fit them in (Memphis audio)

http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/

don't get caught up in the marine vs non marine stuff, I've always used car audio and it has always lasted IMO

1000islands16 04-27-2007 09:23 AM

whats the difference between maribne speakers and car speakers... are the marine just waterproff and thats all or are there more differences?

BraceYourself 04-27-2007 09:24 AM

Get the marine kicker 625 rounds. Have 4 pushing with 900.4 sx kicker amp. Also have 4 10 MB Quart and another amp. Can't even yell over music when turned up...

DoTheMath 04-27-2007 09:33 AM

Andy~

What's the scoop on BABB being back in play - new owners? I had those in my first Formula and they rocked!

MB Quart all the way for your mids and highs. Insane treble and clarity. As far as subs, I like JL.

Being in the electronics business for years, I have some recent audio stuff in my closet FS cheap if interested:

1. I have 2 sets of Clarion Marine speakers. Both are 6 1/2" component speakers. One set is new CM1635, one set has been installed CM1632, but like new in original boxes. Both sets are identical in look and sound. The only difference is the model number. They retail for about $200. I'll sell for: $ 85 for the new set, $ 65 for the used set.

2. Focal 130 V2 5 1/4" component speakers. Brand new never used. Woofer has been mounted, to see if it would fit correctly in my space - it didn't. These are considered high end German made speakers. They sell for about $399 to $450 new, I'll sell em for $200 OBO brand new in box.

3. 1 Kicker 10" Marine subwoofer. Infinite baffle (no box needed) design, in like new condition. $ 50.

jl marine is the way to go also there infinate baffle subs can be mounted anywhere with no box and they pound

LIVNLARGE 05-06-2007 07:45 PM

I had a huge system in my old boat that was all Diamond audio seperates and JL subs. In my new boat I did a "simple " system and it blew me away. The Pioneer TS series that look like they are a yellow carbon fiber cone scream. They are very efficient and absolutely rock, The new JL audio free air marine series woofers are absolutely amazing. I was so surprised the day I picked up my boat at the sound this system puts out. I am using 4 10" free air subs and 3 pairs of Pioneer 6x9's with JL audio amps and could not be happier.
