New Ford 450??

Anyone bought a new 450 yet, and if so how is your milage. What rear gears did you order? Roger

I wonder what the difference with 4:30s would be? I just bought one and got 7.3 from the Fountain factory pulling my 38. It turns 2750 RPMS at 75 MPH and 2550 at 70. I'm thinking that 4:30s would help. The truck runs great with no slow up on hills but loves fuel. Any other info from Ford gurus? Roger

I ordered mine in Nov and just got it last week. There are alot of 4.88s around, I ordered the 4.30s. Plenty of pull for my 42 Tiger. I only have about 60 miles on it, 60 MPH = 2000 rpm. I have a 04 shop truck with 4.88 gears, I like the 4.30s much better. As for milage I towed a mini trackhoe tonight and was seeing 9 mpg average.

I have the 4.10 in my 07' F350, had 4.30 in the 06' F350. I actually like the 3.73 gears the best, these trucks have massive torque, the key is getting better milaege out of them.

Roger......Where are the pics of the new 38? I will be back in NC next month and I would enjoy another lunch with you and Tommy.

mcraymond3 05-06-2007 12:25 PM

Mathew, Where in NC will you be?

WARPARTY36 05-06-2007 02:46 PM

4:88 gears about 9mpg empty and 5.9 to 6.3 towing:(

The truck is 5 weeks old and already has 8500 miles:eek: :D

They darn sure need a bigger fuel tank, stopping every 200 miles is terrible:rolleyes:

I am going to the Factory and then over to Bobby & Williams.....I might even come over and see you if you can knock about $5k off that 06 White Dually you traded for. :D

Roger 05-06-2007 08:17 PM

Matthew, be sure to stop by, lunch is on me. I have not taken any pictures yet but the boat looks great. Warparty, I agree 1000%. They need a 50 gallon tank. I think I am going to take the 4:88s out and replace with 4:30s. Should see a 3-400 rpm decrease. Truck has awesome power but unless you are pulling 22-25,000 pounds the 4:88s are not needed. Thanks for all of the replys. Roger
