When I bought my boat it had a set of optimas in it. They were 5 years old & still good. I bought new ones anyway. Took them out & gave them to one of my workers who put them in his car & his wifes car.....Well its two years later & the old batterys still works perfectly They cost alot but worth every extea dime you spend on them.

You may want to check out the Orbitals by Exide (different than Optima). This is another AGM battery similar to the Optimas (will not leak), but supposedly more reliable. I have one in my car after the Delco leaked acid all over the place when the case cracked. I ran the Orbital completely dead by accident, and after a slow recharge, it was fine. It's not as pretty as an Optima, but it seems to be a fairly stout battery. I've heard that running an Optima dead would kill it. There is also a deep cycle version of the Orbital called the XCD.
