Sturgeon Bay Poker Run
Anyone know the dates for the 2002 run yet?
Klaw |
No, And I'm still looking for the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club phone number for RonS. So, if anyone can post it that would be great. I do know that they close down for the winter.

This is the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Harbor #920-743-3311. Hopefully someone can answer your questions or point you in the right direction.
Later |
Bill, how are the water conditions on the Green Bay side? Would my 28' be safe enough?
Hey, this summer we will need to get Jean and Don up on Winne, should be some good times. Jeff |
Jeff
Any other time but during the Poker Run would be good. It gets really rough for the under 30 footers. We use to go up to Door County regularly when we had our Formula 272.We have run from Sturgeon Bay to Washington and Rock islands. Your boy's would have a blast on Rock Island. Its a neat place with no motorized vehicles allowed. Bill |
Bill, thanks for the update. Hey at least it's another excuse to get a bigger boat. :D
Is there a pier up at those islands to dock? |
HP500efi,
We are planning on the same trip. If you go to Boat US they have charts for Lake Michigan. These show the details of all of the harbors, docks, phone numbers, lodging, food, etc. They seem to be very helpful. Some actual air photo's are shown as well. If you plan on going let me know maybe we can get a group together. Rick |
Off topic here are some pics from our adventure to sturgeon bay. During the summer, just got them up last night. I think I might even try and make the run next summer.

I would be up for a run also. I've been there a few times and know the water a little. I've been told that the low water is going to cause more problems this year. Last year the day before the poker run we took a ride up to an old Mining town about 80 miles North of Sturgeon Bay. Fayate(sp) or something like that. Neat town that the state of Mich. has turned into a museum(sp). Also a nice place to go for a day run. Let me know if you are interested. Bill |
Troutly
I was told they do, but have never stayed there. Our favorite place is Fish Creek. Centrally located, good eating and night life, and the wife likes the shopping. But its a tough place to get into. Its usually full. From Fish Creek its a good days run to Marrinette/Monemonie for Bloddies then to Sturgeon Bay for appetizers then back to Fish Creek for dinner. Another good day is to run up to Rock island for a picnic lunch and then down to Detroit Harbor, Washington island, for dinner and then back to Fish Creek. We enjoy running around up there, only problem is that it's a 3 hour tow to get there. Bill |
Bill,
That sounds like some fun stops. We will have to discuss this more in a few months. It would be nice to get together and run around up there. Anyone else up for this run??? Rick |
I'm not sure if I'll do the poker run but, I'd be interested in a cruise. I boat primarily on the lower part of Green Bay. I'm working the bugs out of new motor. I want to make sure I don't breakdown. :(
I rented a slip a Wavepointe(Little Sturgeon)the year before last(Grand Opening weekend) Has anyone been there recently ? They had some very nice condos to rent if you don't like spending the night on the boat. They had a pool, dining, etc. Keep in touch |
Wife and I with three great kids would be interested in doing a weekend thing like this.
Bill, do you Hotel it up that way or sleep aboard? Keep me in the loop |
Last year on Sunday after the Poker Run we went down to WavePoint for brunch. They were a sponsor of the Poker Run so we try to send business there way. Looks like a great place to play. Talked to some of the people staying there and they really were enjoying it. Its a tough place to find by car. Not well marked on the roads.
Jeff- We usally stay on the boat any place we go if we can. Bill |

We'd be interested in doing a cruise. We only have a little 25' but would be interested in meeting up with some other people wanting to cruise and relax. Hotel/condo would be our choice as well!!! Keep me informed as I'd like to find some new places to do some boating!! Thanks!!!
Dave |
Dave, you ever boat on the Mississippi?
We have a lot of guys on here that love the river cruising. Myself, Troutly, Preferred Stock, ZP'd and others have all met up on the river usually up near Pepin and have had a great time. We usually head to the Casino up in Red Wing and stay a few nights. Kids love the pool etc. Keep your eye open for a post or two on a Mississippi River get together. :D Jeff [ 01-10-2002: Message edited by: hp500efi ] |
Jeff,
Bill was just kidding about things getting rough in under 30 foot boats. So just go ahead and enter a pokerrun already. Let me give you a little tip on how to find the smooth water. Set yourself up at the start right behind all the bigger boats and they will flatten all the waves for you. ;) |
RonS
Did you get my E-mail? Were you able to talk to anyone about the Poker Run? If not I can always let you know when they mail me my registration form and get you a copy. I would enjoy getting together with some of the OSO people up in Door County. We have always had a good time even when the weaher is not good. There are some nice beaches to park at to cocktail and swim. Jeff - Being able to sleep on the boat is one of the tools I used to talk Lois into the bigger boat. I have not thought of an excuse that will work on her for getting the bigger engines. Can you think of one? Bill |
Bill I got the email but did'nt get a chance to call today, I'll give it a try tomorrow. Getting together in door county sounds like a good time. Maybe if we planned early enough we could get reservations in Fish Creek.
As far as the motors go, winterize them next year but don't drain them, by January you have no choice, you have to get new motors |
