I was just there over the holidays... Did not check out the nightlife too much as the kids were with us. Main street in Durango has a lot of pubs and some great restaurants. You can rent equipment in Durango at "hassle free rentals" pretty inexpensively (more beer money). Their is a newly repoened bunny hill in Silverton, an hour north called kendall MT. They don't have lessons or rentals but lift tickets are dirt cheap and their are no lines- good place to practice, teach kids without being a hazard to other skiiers- very scenic town too. We did sleigh rides and snowmobiles with Rapps guide service and went horseback riding south of town at Southfork ranch- I recommend all of them. Pick up a local paper when you get to town for all the numbers. Have a blast!

We just got home Sat. from Breckenridge CO. You will love skiing!! Take a lesson!!!! or several!!!!! you'll enjoy it a lot more if you know what you are doing.

They could use a little more snow out there, but you have five weeks or so before you go. They seem to get a lot of their snow in Feb. As far as night life.... I'm sure there are a lot of cool bars around there. I've always been very happy with a cold drink, a hottub and my wife. That mountain air... you just can't say enough good things about it.

Have fun

I think lessons are definatly in the plan

There is a large area of mountain that is beginner friendly. Stay off the expert runs(lower Hades etc.). There is some extreme terrain at Purgatory, but still enough "Blue" stuff to keep you entertained. It's a really cool place, you will love it.

Lucky Son of a Gun. I used to live in Aspen and gotta say I really miss the light snow. :(
Have fun and as Payton said take a few lessons. Nothing worse than somone losing interest in an activity because they had a crappy time trying to figure out how to do things. :D
