Portable GPS Unit

I am looking for a Portable GPS/Hand held unit that I can use in a car & motorcycle for directions, and then also on my Boat & PWC as a GPS speedometer.

So the main concerns are:

1- Waterproof
2- Compact dimensions
3- GPS speedo
4- Design/ergonomics

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jamal

I know its not actually a hand help but the Garmin 276c is perfect for all of you uses. I use on my bike boat and car.

The 276C is perfect for all those applications. Marine chartplotter, speedo, automobile directions and even topo maps for handheld backwoods use. It won't fit in your shirtpocket but can go in a coatpocket.

from the Areostich catalog (the bible for motocyclists)
the same can be said fior boating use I would think about a upgrade to the 376 for the xm weather capabilities

Garmin Map 276C #2694

Currently this is our favorite all-around motorcycle GPS system. The big 256 color screen is backlit for night use and is fully readable in the brightest sunlight. Includes the Americas Autoroute base maps for street and road data on the entire country. And turn–by–turn directions. Also has a USB data interface for fast map transfers and a big enough memory to hold a lot of maps. Accepts 128mb & 256mb data cards for additional storage. Fully waterproof to military standards. Powered by a rechargeable lithium battery pack for up to 15 hours, it also operates direct from the included 12V power cord. (A 110V charger is included.) The optional auto kit includes a 12V speaker, additional mounts, and an unlocked city map CD with street data for all the cities in the country. Mounts flat on a car or bike dash, or on a tank bag or handlebars. Many programmable readouts: Speed, altitude, distance, sunrise, likelihood of groundhog seeing shadow, etc. 3.8" (diagonal screen. 5.7"×3.2"×1.9". 1.5 lbs.

How about the garmin 60cx or 60csx. waterproof, great for offroad, mapping. Can be had on ebay @350. Or the Garmin 76.

All great units.

The 276c sounds pretty good but is marine chartplotting data included?

NightHawk 05-16-2007 03:43 AM

The marine chartplotting software is around a $90 accessory. You can get it anywhere you can buy the unit and use it on up to 2 Garmin units.

The 478 Garmin has marine, auto, weather, and xm a higher price but well worth it.
