CUSTOM FIBERGLASS VENTS

Still here, just been lurking for a while!!!
I've gone back to what I do best, tooling & design. Very little boat repair work here lately and VERY boring so I've been doing some designs to update old style vents. The first styles will insert directly into existing vent cutouts, second styles will also fit the same cutout lengthwise and require very little cutting to accept the "teardrop" shape and the third design... well , you'll see it soon as I get a page up with photo's. Any suggestions as to what you would like to see ???? Gordo, give me a call and I'll send you a few samples. Cig , come by the shop and check these out and we can discuss your new hatch design!! By the way, you can still get AQUATECH SPEEDCOAT but the end of the year forced me to fold.
Steve :) :) :)

PS CIG, Need HELP with new page!!!

First 4 designs are in production now. They are lg/sm plain pickup NACA style and lg/sm NACA style with rakes(ribs)(What the h#$% is NACA anyway?)Page is now being developed(Thanks to CIG) and address will be posted as soon as I can get pic's!!!! Still looking for other ideas that ya'll would like to see!!!
Thanks,
Steve ;)

NACA= National Advisory Commitee on Aeronautics

It was the predecessor to NASA

That type of duct was developed for use on planes for air intake with little disruption of airflow across the surface-very advantageous over 700 MPH :D Might come in handy on my new turbine powered paddle board ;) :D

Hurry with the pictures. Sounds like what I need. Only have 4 months to get my stuff done. You say that they will fit in where my stock vents are? SWEET!

fastedy 01-12-2002 01:03 PM

Hey Steve,
Great Idea, theirs a need for better vents than whats been out there, I need to get some

let us know as soon as the page is ready! sounds like just what I'm looking for....

CheckmateF1 01-13-2002 12:40 PM

I am interested in these new vents also. Keep me in the loop!
Eric

formula31 01-13-2002 02:14 PM

yea me too, just bought new ss vent for my barge to get more air to the engines but havent put them in yet. Where are you located? I get to the norfolk area a lot.

SpeedDoc 01-13-2002 03:40 PM

First 4 styles are avaliable, sizes are as follows;large with or without rakes(ribs) are 10 5/8" long by 4 5/8" at small end and 8 1/2" at wide end. Small with or with out rakes(ribs) are 8" long by 2 5/8" at small end to 6 1/4" at wide end. These are styled after NACA vents. Direct replacements of standard size vents are in the tooling and design stage now along with the "teardrop, naca " style that will require very little cutting for fit in existing old stlye vent cutouts.First 4 styles will be up for veiwing as soon as I can get a few good photos!!
Still looking for ideas, up to but not limited to custom race style hatches, anything is possible as long as there is a market for it!!
Thanks,
Steve ;)

Above measurments are for the flanged style. For flush mount, simply grind flange and glass in place.

SpeedDoc 01-14-2002 09:05 PM

2 new vent style molds & 1 plug to be "popped" tue. Hopefully will have a total of 9 styles by weeks end!!! At least 8 more styles to follow. Pic's soon... waiting for decent cam to take photos.
Steve ;)

Cig,
Joe is suppose to take some pic's of vents Wed. morning and we'll e-mail to you to insert in page. Also have EST. written for your hatch, how many inchs up?

SpeedDoc 01-15-2002 09:23 PM

Pduer...?..nah...Puedr...no,no,no...pudre?...

If you are refering to to vents on the deck then , yea, a **** load of work!! Only the first two pic's came through. I'm located in Va. and can take care of the retro fit if you are interested. Also can "update" boat with new paint and custom graphic's. Currently "updating" a 38' fountain with new naca style vents (bossmans) and will post pic's when jobs is complete! If you would like to do the job yourself I would be more than happy to walk you through the process.
Steve ;)

SpeedDoc 01-15-2002 09:29 PM

Reindl Powerboats,
Send me a few pic's of the boats and I'll work on some ideas just for that style boat. (Ex-boat designer with 25 years in "glass") Need anybody in tooling and design?
Steve

puder 01-15-2002 09:29 PM

i am pretty sure i am selling thi sboat ASAP in spring so i can either buy a new boat or put the $$$ towards a down payment on a house.

SpeedDoc 01-15-2002 10:45 PM

Chris(Reindl),
Where do you want to place vents?? In front of windsheild as with other models or at the wings??, engine compartment? I'll be glad to send samples after we talk. Thanks for your interest.

Hey Steve,

If you have a few samples avalible, bring them to the chill out on the 26th, also will you be showing them at the Richmond Boat Show this weekend?

SpeedDoc 01-16-2002 08:46 PM

Fastedy,
I won't be at the "Boat Show" but I'll be at the "Chill Out" with as many samples as possible.
Steve

Cignificant 01-17-2002 02:51 PM

I've got Speedy's site up and a few pictures posted. Please do not critique my web-design skills!! This is a work-in-progress, and I'm just trying to help a friend.

dyno 01-17-2002 07:20 PM

are they installed with or over your current vents?I'd like to see them installed on someones boat if possible....

SpeedDoc 01-17-2002 09:17 PM

Vents that are now available require the existing cutouts to be glassed and faired but direct dropins are being tooled now!!Also vents that are teardrop styled and require a little cutting are set to be popped early next week. Site will post pic's as they become available to to public(Thanks to CIG).The vent that are now ready can also be inserted into engine hatch or your teenagers custom Honda!!

Cord 01-17-2002 10:04 PM

How about the next generation of deck scoops. You know, the ones required to clear a blower, etc.

I'd like to see one that's modeled after the 67 vette hood. That would be cool.

SpeedDoc 01-19-2002 12:37 PM

DYNO,
Hopefully I'll have some pic's of a 1989 fountain 38' retrofit posted late next week.

CORD,
Post lenght, height, and width of scoop and I'll look into a new design.(67' vette style)
Thanks,
Steve ;)

SpeedDoc 01-20-2002 07:51 PM

SpeedDoc 01-22-2002 08:36 PM

SpeedDoc 01-24-2002 09:55 PM

Also will post pic's of '89 38' fountain with retrofit new style vents on page . Boat will be complete as of 01-25-02. See above listed site.

(Thanks Steve)

SpeedDoc 01-28-2002 08:54 PM

Sydwayz23'
Brian, I have a few ideas for your style vent. Please e-mail me a pic and the size of existing vent.
Fastedy,
Stop by the shop and I'll give you a few samples to take with you to Superboat.
Anyone else that was at the OSO chill-out and are interested, call or e-mail with any ideas you would like to see!!!
Steve

CheckmateF1 01-28-2002 10:32 PM

Steve, I am also interested in the same style of vent as Brian. Matter of fact mine are probably about the same size. His boat is next to mine as they sleep for the winter. I'll try and measure both of them tomorrow.
Great to finally meet you at the chill-out!!

talk soon, Eric

SpeedDoc 01-28-2002 10:52 PM

CheckmateF1,
Had a great time putting faces behind screen names!!I'm in the process of designing a vent that will be a semi-direct insert(requires a very little cutting) to replace "old" style vents. It will replace your vent with 3 "mini" naca style vents in one unit!! Will take a few weeks to tool new design but will keep you posted on progress.
Thanks,
Steve
