28-30 Ft. with Twins?
What are some good offshore boats in current production with twins in the 28 to 30 ft. range? Opinions on them are welcome, including value for the money.
I could only come up with a few in that lenth with twins: Laveycraft Nuera 2950 Baja Outlaw 30 Donzi 28 ZX Pantera 28 (I've heard it gets a bit tail heavy with twins) Formula 292 FASTech Michael |
I am currrently waiting to see if I qualify for a brand new eliminator eagle xp 30 ft with twin 496 ho's for 145k, that thing looks bad ass.

Powerquest 290 & 300
Formula 312--a few inches shorter than a 30 Outlaw Cig Mystic |
for twins look at A SUTPHEN 32 one of the best rough water boats made lots of room in it. sister boats were the 30ft which was 87 and before, 31ft 88 to 2003 32ft 2004 and up had a ride in a 32 with a single 850hp in 5 to 6 footers at a cape cod race that was canceled in 04 we were running 65 to 75 gps with 4 on board it was awsome riding. I bet you can get a 496 twin for 120 to 140 for a guess.

The Donzi 28ZX with twin 350 Mags is a great boat with an awesome ride. As a matter of fact I have a 2000 for sale and its priced to go. Just took delivery of a Sonic 358 and I need to sell the Donzi. Call and ask for Scott 240-882-3557 if interested.

29 Scarab, 30Superboat will be MUCH less coin then anything mentioned.
28 Saber |
Had a 29 Powerquest with 454s. Great boat for spacious living (better than most offshores), not the absolute best for bigger water. Depends what you are looking for.

30-31 Sutphen
|
New... 28saber, 28pantera, 28jokerall w/ twin sbc.
btw, the pantera may be heavy only with bbc. out of the one's you've mentioned...i think you can only get the donzi and formula w/ sbc's. |
Nordic Heat - 28 feet (single engine)
Cig Bullet - 31 feet (awesome boat) :D |
28 Active thunder with twin 350s, its a big 28' and handles the big stuff well, i had one for 2 years and loved it.
Wild |
Michael, are you looking for new, since you still want it in current production?
I don't think AT will build a 28 twin. |
u looking for a twin outboard too... or just boats with twin I/O's
|
Why twin? On a boat that little, a hot single engine would be far less hassle.
Less fuel flow for any given level of performance with a single too: remember that the more the boat weighs, the more fuel it burns. On a big boat, sure you want twins, so they are both lightly loaded at cruising speed. |
I can't believe that no one has suggested a 35 Fountain. Now that is a nice 30 foot boat!!!!! :drink: :evilb: :drink: :evilb:
|
lol:p :D

BTW, I am looking at I/Os, and was looking for new, because I'm picky, and I'm on the West Coast, and most boats are on the East Coast (costs about $1500 a pop just to look). Michael |
Michael, btw a twin doesn't burn twice as much fuel as a single, and a heavier boat doesn't burn more, its just slower at any given rpm. It's HP that needs fuel.
A twin sbc will also be more fuel efficient, but also a bit slower, but lighter. :D How fast you wanna go and how much you wanna spend are two critical points. |
32 sunsation. nice boat.
|
I like the Sutphens and the Sunsations if you want to go a couple feet longer. Great in the rough stuff for their size

I agree with everything you said. I am considering twins because it would be for ocean use (Pacific), and the thought of an engine/drive failure out there makes me a bit nervous.

Michael If I stayed along the coast, or just went in rivers, I'd for sure only consider a single. In fact, I know what I would get -- a Howard 28. But I go out around the islands... When it comes down to it, I am sure my next boat will be twin too. Bigger, but twins. |
28 Apache, and yes there is a new one for sale if you insist on new. contact Magnum Mark for details.
Active Thunder would be another excellent choice for offshore. |
Unfortunately, 30 ft. of hull length (less drive) is my maximum, due to maneuvering room available at my home.
Also, is the Sutphen website up to date? They only list 21 to 26 feet from what I can see. Michael |

They are the way to go for ruff water. For that range, single I'd go for a 29/30 Activator and twin I'd look for a used 30 Cigarette or a new Sutphen. |
