Exclamation Marine Battery Recall

Found this on Consumer Reports while researching the recall on my dishwasher

Marine-type 12-volt batteries

Could explode and cause chemical and heat burns and lacerations.

Products: 11,000 batteries, designed for use in boats and as auxiliary power source in mobile homes and recreational vehicles, sold 9/98-12/98 for $79 to $89. Brand names include "Action Pack," "Centennial Battery," "Pro-Guide," "Sea Volt," "Trojan," and others. Only batteries designated as Type 27TMN are subject to recall. Suspect batteries bear one of following designations stamped on positive post of battery terminal: I01, I04, I12, I14, I15, I21, I29, J05, or J17.

What to do: Return battery to store for replacement. For information, call Trojan Battery at 800 568-9889.

Does not make much sense to do a recall after twice the lifespan of the batteries. I doubt there are any marine batteries left that from 1998.

I thought the same thing when I ran across the recall, but I decided to post it anyway. You never know if they are still in use. Besides, I you do have one, you'll probably get a new one for free

His was a fairly new Interstate. Not exactly sure what caused it to explode.
