496ho Redline....

Does anyone know what the Mercury 496HO redline is? If anyone knows it would be a big help, because I've heard three different answers...5000RPM....5100RPM, and I've heard that the rev limiter comes on at 5150RPM?

Thanks

Max rpm should be 5000. The rev limiter kicks in at 5150 rpm.

Yup, I run mine to 5000.

book says range is 4600-5000, but I'm pretty sure 5150 is the tev limiter, seems I've read Teague commenting that the sweet spot is to prop them for 4900, pretty good torque curve for a mild engine- about to try and pull some 34" 5 blades this week, 32's are over 5k now:)

I think the rev limiter is actually 5250 but I may have that confused with another engine. It's at least 5150 cause seen that before with different props.

Usually Mercury makes the rev limiters 150 rpm above max rpm.

rev limit at 5150, prop it right at 5000
