What was the first boat
that made you say to your self, I have to have one of those.
for me it was when i was watching the race on lake Pontchartrain growing up with the Old Popeyes boat. |
Roger Munn's Magnum - Jolly Roger.
When I was a kid watching it race on Barnegat Bay, I thought it was the coolest boat in the world. |
I have no clue what manufacturer, but it was a go fast in clear lake by the name of "PAPER DOLL" probably a cig or apache, but I havent a clue. It was almost 20 yrs ago.
|
Wasn't just one boat that I can think of. Around here in the late 80's - 91 or so they had several Formula SR-1s, a Chris Craft Stinger, a couple of Scarab Panthers, and a Baja 280. I loved them all and was hooked.

Saw and heard a red Cig while on vacation as a little kid. Been on the hunt for one ever since! Now, if the Real Estate market would just improve....
|
Saw the powerboats all my life, but what really did it for me was Flash Gordon and his poker runs. I was about 18 when he first bought that eliminator - remember it like yesterday. I didn't get to know him that well, but I sure do miss him and his boat :( . I am very happy to have run with him.

Early to mid 80's @ my parent's shore house, Barnegat Bay. I used to see a 29' Mirage (B-33) Kamikaze test running owned by a woman up the street. Through the years I got to know her and ran in her A-class boat 1991-94. (a different 29' Mirage A-33)
Prior to that I used to love watching the Bennihana in Pt. Pleasant but no paticular boat stands out. |

LS Somewhere buried in either my house or my parent's house, I have a BBPBRA patch I got when I was a kid. Wish I could find it. :D If I found the patch, I'm sure I'd find the pile of picutres of raceboats I took back then that I've also been searching for. |
Any pics. of my 28 Cigarette " Berks Law" ? I raced that boat a few times in the Bay race.
|
It was a red fountain a guy up the street from me had i was probably about 18. 7 years later I bought it from the guy

I don't know. It's been so long since I've seen the pictures, I'm afraid they're long gone. Both me and my parents have each moved several times, and I think they are in the attic of a house somewhere that neither of us own. :( |
14 years ago while visiting LOTO, I saw a Cigarette with blower motors tied up at Shooter's 21 (where the Shootout is currently held). Thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen but when the owner (???) fired it up to leave and I heard those big blocks thumping, that was it. 8 uears later, JT and I broke the world speed record for offshore boats with, you guessed it, two blown big blcoks thumping real hard !! :evilb: :drink:

for me it was when i was watching the race on lake Pontchartrain growing up with the Old Popeyes boat. Also some of my dads friends came to our camp with their boats. One of them gave me a ride andi was hooked since. As soon as i could afford one, i got one..... and i have been spending money on it ever since :D By the way bayouboy i saw you in madisonville for the 200 but i was in a rush to get back to the house. Finally moved in and had to do the damn garden, but the next time you come down we will have to hook up |
the first boats i saw when i was a kid was a 88 scarab panther and a 88 chapperal villian. i still see the scarab every once in a while but the guy who bought the villian flipped her and totaled the boat.

I was 2 when my Dad started racing his Shadow Cats. I still have the 10' Cougar Cub of his race boat.

Sometimes in the late 80's their was a 10 or 12 meter Fountain Called "Truckin" that I really likes. I was young so not know what the size was, but I think it was a 12 meter. I was crazy about Fountains for all of my youth. Since then I have been bitten by the Cigarette bug and I won't be happy with a boat until I owe one.

Va Voom in clear lake
got my dad started in the 80's and he bought a 36 cigarette War Party 47 Apache and Gone Again 32 skater. they were all hometown boats and I worked at the waterfront as a teenager just hoping to get a glimpse of an offshore. I never could figure the people out that didn't even look when these rigs floated by. I'll do almost anything as long as it's out on the water. Ernie |
sometime around 76-77, I walked outside and saw a 27'? cig, yellow and red with big "inferno" graffix on the side or something to that effect..it was a long time ago, that was in toledo....

I was 5 and we were headed out in our Chris Craft cruiser for my first time ever on Grand Lake. On the way out of the cove we passed a big Scarab on a lift called "Think Rich". Coolest thing I'd ever seen.
|
LOTO when I was 13 or 14. Family vacation, and I was a complete nut for standup jet skis (still am!). We had rented a 550SX and I was out playing when an all red Fountain ICBM cruised in to get some gas. I was instantly in love. Bought my all-red Fountain at LOTO 16 years later!
