350 mag problems
I recently purchased a 2000 chaparral 280 ssi with twin 350 mags/BIII's (140 hrs on engines).
I was cruising along on my 2nd outing at about 3000 rpm when the Starboard Engine started sputtering and quit. I checked for fire and it appears that is not the problem. I removed a small plug on the fuel rail and had fuel there. I don't have a fuel pressure guage so I don't know how much pressure I have. Any Ideas or suggestion how to trouble shoot it? |
what happens when you try to start it? is it turning over?

Usually these symptoms point to a fuel delivery problem. Change the fuel water seperators, clean the pump screens and try again. Just a note, especially if your a trailer boater, avoid buying fuel from in the water marinas, they tend to get a lot more water and debris in their tanks and that translates to fuel system problems, besides that the fuel cost is a lot higher!

The engine turns over fine. No hesitation at all.
I trailer it and use a reputable fuel station. Additionally, the port engine is having no issues at all. I agree that everything points to a fuel problem. I'm hoping it's exactly what you've pointed to. I know if that i'll have spare filter's on the boat from now on if that is all that it is. I just closed on the thing friday so I'm taking it back to the dealer today. They sound like they are going to take care of it. Thanks for the replies. |
