lost a fight with a piling , and bare hulls for sale?

its a long shot
i lost a med speed fight with a big a** piling over the weekend , did alot of glass damage to the front and side of the boat , now instead of fixing it i'm looking into

eighty's or early 90's single engine (bravo cut-out prefered)
23-27 foot ,
bare hull prefered , i have literally everything ,
and dont mind doing the work
work easy = money tough
any help any where?

eyezlee 06-04-2007 12:31 PM

got any pics?

Strip Poker 388 06-04-2007 12:34 PM

Hope you all are allright?

A guy here last week centered a chanell marker in a pontoon at night his head hit it:eek: doa

ENFORCER24 06-04-2007 12:38 PM

yea , amazingly i'm ok (few bruises)
i was running around the marker and came off a wake and the boat darted left into the marker , just a freak thing , but i will give the markers a lil extra room from now on , instead of speeding by em close
i'll get some photo's this evening if the weather holds out and post em , but its ugly

BajaRunner 06-04-2007 12:53 PM

damn. insurance wont cover it?

Stormrider 06-04-2007 01:14 PM

ENFORCER24 06-04-2007 01:18 PM

naa my cheap a** had bare minimums on insurance , only occupants and damage i may do to other things , and amazingly the piling didnt have a mark on it (that i could see) , but didnt look very hard at it

ENFORCER24 06-04-2007 01:19 PM

thanks storm , thats the kinda thing i'm lookin for , cept w/o the trailer and drive and such

Stormrider 06-04-2007 01:57 PM

can always sell off the extras later
If its solid and ready to go, not a bad deal.
I doubt you'll find a solid hull for much under $3000.

ENFORCER24 06-04-2007 02:36 PM

Hey mark , it was 2 miles east of colonial beach inlet , middle of the river between cobb island and colonial beach , it wasnt a tricky one , just a freak accident

throttleup 06-04-2007 04:45 PM

Glad to hear you are OK!

Julie

ENFORCER24 06-04-2007 06:18 PM

I know a guy that has a 27 ' excaliber for sale . Hull and I think gas tank. Not sure how much he's asking.

bouyhunter 06-04-2007 06:42 PM

Enforcer, sorry to hear it.
On the brighter side, you joined a club that a few of us here are members of. Hence, my screen name.:D
Caught an unlit steel nun bouy on the starboard bow on my way home late at night and running too fast. I was young, and learned my mistake. Damage was somewhat similar to yours. Fortunately, I had full coverage. The guy that did the estimate and repairs made a deal with me that because he had to paint hullsides and deck, if I would help work on it, he'd do custom paint as long as the design wasn't too crazy. I just went with a gray to black fade finishing with checkers towards the aft.
So I got the chance to update the look of the boat on insurance money and labor.
Good luck in your search, but don't rule out repair.

ENFORCER24 06-04-2007 07:10 PM

bouyhunter , thanks for letting me know i'm not the only boater that has found a nav aid in the wrong way , lil different circumstances but same end result , unfortunatly i'm not covered by my policy , I figure my stupid mistakes have to be learnt the hard way (my wallet)
its all well above the water line so i might just break out the power tools and a gallon of resin and a bedsheet size piece of fiber mat and make a really crappy looking repair
i might be the worst looking thing on this river , but not the slowest by any means
as long as i have fun right?

and gassticks , a 27 excaliber would be awesome , right up my alley , i did kinda want to go a lil longer
find out and pm me , if its a good deal there could be a finders fee in there :)

phragle 06-04-2007 08:24 PM

nothing a few stickers wont cover :drink:

bouyhunter 06-04-2007 09:24 PM

Honestly, it doesn't look like that bad of damage.
I needed all new rubrail (entire hull) glass work, balsa coring, and paint. I think the bill was under $4K.
Cheaper than buying a new (used) hull, and I loved the boat, though it wasn't much.
Hell, boat was only 14K when I bought it a year or two previous.
Mind you, these dollar values are about ten years old, but something for reference.
Hope it helps.
And BTW - there's at least 3-4 other guys here that have admitted to running down a nav-aid. By odds of percentage, that means there is probably at least 50-100 more.
Yeah, it sucks, but we all learn lessons on the water - things happen fast, even if you're running slow.

Gassticks

A friend of mine is looking for a 27 Excalibur just like what your talking about. He has cash and is ready to buy.

Andy

kennyo 06-05-2007 07:48 AM

Duct tape that B*tch up and fix it this winter. That way everyone knows it's on your list of things to do!

ENFORCER24 06-05-2007 08:34 AM

worst part is that i just got it running right , i mean really good like best since i'v owned it

320es 06-05-2007 09:16 AM

Doesen't look to bad to me. I don't think I would scrap the boat because of it. On the other hand a 27 excalibur would be pretty bad ass, but I bet it is a TRS setup.

DirtyMoney 06-05-2007 04:53 PM

I know where another 27 Excalibur is too.

CMG 06-05-2007 07:11 PM

easier to fix it

bouyhunter 06-05-2007 10:05 PM

seems like consensus here is drop a couple bucks and repair.
Just my opinion.

ENFORCER24 06-05-2007 11:04 PM

the pictures dont do justice
or maybe glass work is easier / cheaper then i thought
in the "stabbin cabin" all the way forward where the anchor locker is , we have those 2 speakers facing rearward?
one is crushed , not like its feelings were hurt from the accident , but crushed like the wall of the boat was just too much to bare , folded in half

Stormrider 06-06-2007 08:14 AM

hmmm... could be more structural damage than meets the eye.

ENFORCER24 06-06-2007 08:24 AM

Yea , theres definatly hidden damage

CMG 06-06-2007 09:23 AM

unless your out trying to pick up chicks in it - run it the next couple years like you stole it. The hull will be worthless once you strip it and repower another boat. what the h3ll - it floats!!

ENFORCER24 06-06-2007 09:33 AM

yea , i'm gonna throw a few pounds of glass and resin on it just so the chips dont hit me in the face while gettin top speed
and maybe to help hold it together while crashing down off of waves
still looking for a hull , but not aggressivly ,
maybe i'll save my money and go for a brand new Predator 25 cat hull for my power , although still waiting on Ginamarie to get back to me with pricing
and a few other used hulls that people have approched me with

THEJOKER 06-06-2007 09:57 AM

I've got a new hull and deck ready but it ain't gonna be 3 grand!

Dave M 06-06-2007 10:37 AM

Call Frank's Marine in Mt. Vernon. He is good and can advise whether it can be fixed. 703.780.9707

phragle 06-06-2007 11:42 AM

I will dispose of the old hull for you..free of charge!

i know a new hull deck and interior insert is gonna be quite a bit more expensive , i would guess between 12-20 grand depending on what it is , but thats just an assumption

TexomaPowerboater 06-06-2007 12:06 PM

I think it would be a lot cheaper to fix it then to go with a bare hull and start all over. The consensus on restoration I have see on OSO is that you are better off (cheaper) buying a nice boat upfront rather than to do a project yourself.

Another FYI - when you budget for a project, get everything down cost wise you can - then double it.

ENFORCER24 06-07-2007 09:28 AM

i'm not a newbee to projects , either way i go its gonna be a project

First Gun 06-07-2007 02:51 PM
