Ozarks sound laws
I have a 38 fever with blower motors. i boat in the Ozarks and have been running mufflers. if i take them off am i asking to get a ticket?
|
I doubt it we sure have been lucky, and with in very close proximity of them.
|
na.....there are a lot of real loud boats running there. I really doubt they would pull you over.
|
On a weekend during the day, you will not get stopped. The Water Patrol is too busy. If you are out at night and leaving one of the hotspots, the water patrol will stop you. Also, during the week when its slow, they will stop you. As for getting a ticket, it will depend on how loud you are and their discretion.
I was stopped for noise the first time I took my Pantera too LOTO. I was 3db over and got a written warning. |
as long as you try to be courtious you should be fine. in other words dont rev up your motors alot while in nuetral. if you see water patrol in a no wake zone shut one motor down.
|
It also depends on if someone complains, I have 496 hos with mufflers and last summer someone complained about a yellow boat and I was the only yellow boat the water patrol saw so I got pulled over and tested. I had to laugh, but I only rung the meter at 89db so I was sent on my way.......
|
I agree with the bear. Over the years they seem to increase enforcement when they have more complaints.
Down side is that once they get you, they remember you, and you tend to be a target more and more. |
I would leave the mufflers on. Why risk it?

Take them off and if you are close to a wp just turn one engine off. Just remember that you could be pulled over at anytime, so make sure everything is in order on your rig (life jackets, fire ext., etc..). Regards |
I drug my boat over there a few years ago for the shootout. 350s- headers loud. Unfortunately I got pulled over coming out of party cove. My db level was the least of their worries. After passing a sobriety test, and a full safety inspection, they reluctantly had to release me when they could have just got the meter out. It's probably hit or miss depending on the officer, just make sure everything else on the boat is current and you should be fine.
