I was at the lake just after the crash . I go to lake oroville with my family often.I see boaters speeding everywhere on the lake. This speed boat operator should have the book thrown at him.He disreguarded all safety laws on the lake.He could of easily killed his friends and people in the marina. If that boat would of been heading straight it would of been a disaster in the marina. These high powered speed boats should be banned period.Thiers to many people on the lake to safely allow these type of boats. Why wasn't the operator name even mention in the paper , sounds alittle fishy wouldn't you say.

Yep!

A 37 foot cigarette boat traveling at a high rate of speed careened off Lake Oroville Sunday evening cruising 71 feet up a 45 degree bank, after hurling its four passengers into the water where they were rescued by nearby boaters and taken to safety.

I have been legitimately asked that.

Actually, Cigarette, Outerlimits, Sonic, Nor-Tech, Black Thunder, and others offer the side/side front bolsters.

That boat is listed for sale here in the OSO classifieds. I image the pricing will adjust soon. :D
That's a real shame; as that is a beautiful 2004 AT with only 100ish hours. It has 525EFIs, not SC motors.

VERY SAD to learn of this, but I am glad the passengers/driver are OK.

I just talked to Pat about the incident. Apparently they were ejected in open water in the middle of the lake due to "some unexplained incident". The local authorities talked to Pat about the incident, and as someone was leaving the boat, they mashed the throttles to the dash, and the boat picked up speed while traveling unmanned.

I believe the boat had 4x4 props on it. :D

HOW ABOUT A FVCKING LANYARD PEOPLE????? THEY ARE NOT THERE FOR DECORATION!!!!

I wonder what the peanut gallery is going to have to say about this one.

NoQuarter 06-06-2007 03:41 PM

Definately looks like an AT.

ACTIVESHACK 06-06-2007 03:42 PM

Dayum that hull is tough  I guess all of us AT owners now know why Pat can offer a lifetime warranty on the hull.

Cigarette only made a few 39's with that seating when it first came out. They dont do it anymore. Back the accident, is it really that hard to drive a boat?? NO. Why can't people learn how to drive their boats. Thankfully no one was hurt. If more of these keep happening Cat insurance isn't going to be the only one thats high. So I think thats two 37 AT's that have been in incidents now.:D:D

Incidents? There's been many "incidents" in many brands of boats, by many people that don't have proper seat time behind the wheel.

Not wearing your lanyard is beyond irresponsible.

Thats what I meant by my post and pretty much every brand has had some idiot by one of their boats and do stupid things and either kill themselves or wreck the boat. Your right on the lanyard. It's amazing how many people dont wear it. I wonder if they ever question why it's there.

TexomaPowerboater 06-06-2007 08:55 PM

I would like to see the hull when they get it on the trailer. It be interesting to see just how strong the AT is.

Iggy 06-07-2007 05:14 AM

If people don't like wearing a lanyard there is an alternative. One manufacturer has a wireless cutoff sensor. You clip a keyfob device to your shorts and if you go over the side the system senses your gone and shuts down the engine(s).
It's fine if you fall over the side but if you get knocked out and land on the deck it's still a runaway.

Dave M 06-07-2007 05:53 AM

I had to look on a map, I never heard of that lake. It looks like a little puddle. Hitting a submerged object or some type of mechanical failure are two legitimate ways I can see people getting ejected from a BIG boat like that on a small lake. Or, trying to drive the boat like a jet-ski? Cranking the wheel over at HIGH speed?

kennyo 06-07-2007 08:03 AM

I just might be able to afford that now.

jayboat 06-07-2007 09:25 AM

Ever since I saw those pix yesterday I've been wondering two things...

how does a stepped hull handle rocks of that size?

would an Apache have made it to the top?

Inquiring minds...:evilb:
