God I hate Yamaha's
I tried to check the thermostats on the Yamaha's. One motor the bolts came out fine, the second motor one came out and one snapped I was only using a 3 inch long wrench so I wouldn't put on enough pressure to break one, or so I thought.
Now I need to see if I can get someone out to fix it before Saturday, as we have about 30 people coming over for a surprise birthday party and wanted to have both boats (mine and Juliet's dad's sail boat) available for some rides. -Greg |
 DID YOU KNOW THAT MERCS. 4 STROKES ARE MOSTLY YAMAHA?

As usual, everyone I called either doesn't do mobile service, wasn't in, or had a 2-4 wk backlog (guess Yamaha shops aren't like the Maytag repair man).
I ordered a 5mm bolt extractor, pilot drills in both right and left hand, drill bushing insert to make sure the pilot gets centered, and a heli-coil set in case none of the other works. I suppose if I get really desperate I could grab the MIG and weld it back on :biglaugh: -g |
Lay a flat washer on top and mig it to thr broken bolt. Then lay a larger nut on the washer and mig it in the middle, also two tacks on the outside nut to washer. Smack it with a hammer, let cool a little and unscrew it out. If you have room. Good luck! Hope this helps..

Unfortunately it broke about 1/4" down in the bore. I probably should have taken my heat gun to it to expand the aluminum before I tried to loosen it, but didn't want to burn the paint off.
