Default XR: swapping top cap, hydraulic steering issues

I have the regular XR top and rear cap with the steering/tie bar mounted to the rear of the drive...see pics.

What do I have to do to swap the steering system to use this type of top/rear cap from the newer XR's.

Note: I have none of the hardware from these replacement drives so those items would need to be found as well......

Is this type that much stronger and warrant switching the steering system over.....I'm running 700 FT/TQ in a 38 Formula...also considering going to 5 blade props.

There is nothing wrong with the Latham set up and you have the showers to boot. I guess the new style upper case won't accept the old cap? Call latham direct the were very helpful when I needed some stuff that was missing. What are you doing with the old drives I need some parts or whole drive that I can rebuild. XZ's I assume.

I have the wingplates hardware for the 2005 and newer to sell. It is all new, never used, but it doesn't fit my drive. I'll sell it very reasonably.

That should fit his drives and he has the shower hoses.

I may be interested in just a trade, I have the older style drive and those may fit. My set is brand new.

If you want to swap upper cap for a stronger unit, you should be looking a little further than Merc. Get the Max Machine Worx cap.
EXTREMELY stout and guaranteed not to flex like Merc stuff.

The drive on the boat (first pic) is the setup I currently have. They are XR's but with the old style top cap. I bought 3 spares and a buddy will be getting 2 of them. Neither of us can use the top caps that are on the ones we bought (pic with drive on it's side in the back of the truck). Since this newer style top cap is stronger I'm looking to find a way to use them with my steering system. I won't have any parts leftover....sorry guys.

thedonz......check your PM's. I doubt I'll end up needed the extra setup you have but who knows.
