Check Us Out

As a result of people dropping the ball on the boating scene in and around Pittsburgh. Some of my friends and I have decided to take things into our own hands. WWW.Boatpittsburgh.com is the result of this.

Pittsburgh is a great boating destination and we want everyone to know. My buddy Terry, Tgrantz on OSO, has put together a website for the organization so that everyone can see what its like. Feel free to browse around and enjoy the pics. Some of my OSO brothers and sisters have already gotten to experience Pittsburgh and Im sure they know what we are talking about. Hope to see you on the water soon.

Good for yoonz guyz:D

Lived in the Burgh area for about a year and a half. I didn't get a chance to do much boating there - and the boating I did, was a big change for me.
But, I was on the Allegheny up around lock 4 or 5 (can't remember which - it was one up from Fox Chapel) around the New Kensington area. I just didn't like running ten miles, go through the locks, run ten-15 miles, lock through...
It was a lot different for me from growing up on Erie.
I never actually boated down to the point, but I imagine it's a lot better down that way.
Pretty hectic time in my life, so not alot of boating while I was there.

I've got a call into a guy on a boat in the area.
I might need to ask a favor.:D
Good luck with the site!

RollWithIt 06-23-2007 02:17 PM

I will admit.. Its not like running in open water like on Erie or the gulf/ocean. But it is what it is and we make the best of it. There is actually a nice amount of space to run on the main pool because you got all three rivers till you hit the locks. But, the nice thing is there are plenty of places to tie off or raft up and have a good time.

If you need anything looked at. let me know.

Don't take it the wrong way. I was just used to open water, and that was all I knew. It was kind of a culture shock for me.

I'm waiting on a call/e-mail back from a guy out that way that has something I may be interested in. 724 area code. I've got a buddy from Gatto's in Tarentum that I'm trying to get a hold of too to take a look-see.
Thanks for the offer! I'll let you know.

RollWithIt 06-24-2007 04:35 AM

Dont worry. Didnt take it the wrong way. It is what it is. Yeah, its murky and has debris in it. But its my backyard. Do I wish it was Miami blue with lots of visibility. Of course. But hey, we are trying to make the best out of what we got. :drink:

The one thing I really miss about the Burgh is Mario's on the south-side. Used to go there for lunch all the time.
I was working right in the West end circle, across the street from Myrna's(???) diner - I think that was the name of the place.
I did have a lot of fun while I was there.
Good luck to Yoonz Guyz!

RollWithIt 06-24-2007 05:13 PM

Its Yinz... Spelling it is tougher than mispronouncing it. LOL.

Bouyhunter. I know exactly where you are talking about. I grew up not 5 minutes from there. My marina is right across from the west end circle. Mario's has some good food. But it pails to Fat Heads in the Southside.

Strip. I dont believe she is anyones Wife/gf. I missed out on it cause I was working 16 hours on that day. I had a couple other girls lined up if we needed them. I will have to post more pics and things happen. We got a party planned for July 3rd. Should be a good time.

Sounds cool k24u. We are going to try to plan boat trips each year on the rivers. Sounds like you might have a cool area to visit. Hit us up on the Boatpittsburgh site and make any suggestions you want. Next time you are in town, stop by the marina and say hi.

Dude! Sweet! 06-25-2007 04:53 PM

Don't forget "an at!"

I lived in the 'Burgh for nearly 4 years. Always liked Bar 11, Dees and Brewskis on the Sathside (an at) and the Deli bar (upstairs) in Shadyside. Heck I was a bouncer at the Attic in Oakland for two years. Laziest bouncer in America!

Good to see you 'burghers getting it together an at!

PS - a couple of my jagoff buddies still have boats up at Fox Chapel as I recall, but a bit too highbrow for me!

You just brought back memories.
I forgot all about "an at" and jagoffs.

How about this one? Whats a "gum-band"?
Do you know what "Jumbo" is?
Or what's a "hicky"

My family is originally from the Burgh, so I was kind of used to this. When my girlfiend moved there with me, she had no clue what people were saying.

tgrantz 06-25-2007 05:19 PM

Hey guys - thanks for showing some love to the site. Be sure to e-mail me if anyone is ever in da 'Burgh - we'll be happy to meet up and show you the highlights.

Thanks again!!!!

Dude! Sweet! 06-25-2007 06:32 PM

Right on!

Your mom used to run the sweeper, an at? Shop for groceries at the "Iggle"? Yinz want "grass" on at?

I grew up outside of Buffalo, but went to grad school at Duquesne and some of my closest, life long friends are from the 'Burgh.

A long way from LA that's for sure!

Great site guys, enjoy the summer! I think that people in more dramatic climates get to enjoy the warm weather more than we do in the warmer parts of the country becuase you guys feel the urgency to get out every weekend in the summer.

Still miss pumpin' Irrn with Myron!

bouyhunter 06-25-2007 06:53 PM

Other things about the Burgh area that were strange to me:
You can only buy beer at the beer store. No grocery stores or carryout's.
You can only buy wine or Liquor at the Liquor store - but you can't buy beer there.
Beer sales stopped at 10:00pm every night (at least at my local, not sure if that was everywhere).
No beer or Liquor sales on Sunday.
If you run out of beer on sunday, the local bar will sell carry-out at bar prices. $$$
At the beer store, you cannot buy a six-pack. Beer is only sold by the case ( that's a comitment if trying something new).
Iron City is on tap everywhere.
Yuengling is the local, and if I'm not mistaken, the oldest brewer still in operation in America.

Dude! Sweet! 06-25-2007 07:11 PM

I thought Yuengling was Philly. Penn Pilsner was local and oldschool. I always liked Straub too (from St. Marys and Honestly Natural). People in the Burgh hated Rolling Rock as I recall even though it used to be made right up the road in Latrobe, where the Stillers had summer camp (St. Vincents?).

The state stores were strange, but I worked in a bar and had buddies that worked in bars, so no issues getting beer! And Brewskis had Iron and IC (for the ladies!) on tap for like $0.95 for a 22 oz beer. Plus a lot of my buds belonged to the Eagles (Iggles) Club up in Sharpsburg and I think the beer was like $0.50 Iron on tap! Now I can't get Miller Lite on tap for under $4.50 a pint!

bouyhunter 06-25-2007 07:25 PM

Yeah, I made my first trip out to CA a few months ago, and you can't find Miller.
But, any port in a storm - I went with Coors.

Roll with it - I hope we're not trashing your thread. If nothing else, we're keeping it in full view at the top of the board:D

RollWithIt 06-27-2007 11:20 AM

Not trashing it at all.. I think its funny cause everything you guys are saying is soo true. This area is very unique to say the least in its culture. lol

They are starting to change some of the beer laws. Working on getting beer in the stores here like every other state. You still have to stock up for sunday's though. But you guys forgot about one thing. UBC. When all the other distributors are closed, University beverage Center in Oakland stays open all night. :D

Dude! Sweet! 06-27-2007 02:35 PM

Ha! If I had a dollar for everytime I was in UBC! Right up the street from the "O" as I recall!

People think I'm nuts when I tell them I love Pittsburgh. Great people and a great town!

bouyhunter 06-27-2007 06:02 PM

You may be right about the Yeungling thing being Philly. I just know that the Burgh is the first time I encountered it.
I still have some family and friends out that way.
There are some very cool and unique things about Pittsburgh.

RollWithIt 06-28-2007 01:46 AM

Yes it is near the "O". Thats another great place to get good cheap food. And alot of it. Rule for the fries.. Order at least one size smaller than you really want to eat. At least Ft. Lauderdale gets to sample a little with Primanti Brother's being down there. Not sure if its as good as the original in the Strip District.
