QUAD MIDNIGHT OPTI'S or EFI's

Just sold my 37 Midnight CC and bought a new 37 closed deck in Miami.:evilb:

Want to put quads on and going back and forth on 225 optis or 225-250 efi's.

Opti's for fuel eco and efi's for performance. Seem to be around same price in used market.

Friend told me his buddy switched from EFI's to optis on his quad Midnight and lost 10 mph and of course gained better economy.

Yes thought about twin 300's or triples again but just want to have quads.

This boat is going to be much lighter than the old lay up.

Opinions............ :chimp:

How's About Quad 250xs Motor's They Run On Low Octane Gas. And Should Do The Trick.

mikebrls 06-24-2007 05:55 PM

Ow Theres A 40ft Sutphen With That Motor Package And Is Said To Run 80 Mph

My father has run bassboats for over 30 years and gets out fishing Sat and Sun approx 40 weekends a yr. He has spent some time considering these 2 options........
Optimax burns ALOT less fuel but doesn't seem to make as much power. It also burns over twice the 2 stroke oil that is mixed with the fuel (and that oil is very expensive per gallon compared to gasoline). Last he checked a 225 Optimax was about $2K more than the EFI model. Based on this info he claims there is no way he can justify the Optimax. The fuel savings is likely eaten up by the additional oil costs and that is based on his quite heavy usage. You'll be running 4 but the mathematics are still the same.

Good Luck, I'll pick his brain for more info if you need it. (he has alway run Merc's and currently has a 250 EFI on a 21 ft Champion)

Ive got a 225optimax and it drinks oil. I spend $33 on one jug of oil.

Since your going quads...what the heck just go with the EFI's. Problem solved, next question? haha I can't wait to see that bad boy of your's.

monstaaa 06-24-2007 06:54 PM

efi's , their more dependable.

t500hps 06-24-2007 07:22 PM

And the Optimax's sound like those little Honda generators......EFI's have a little rumble!!!!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the responses. OSO and the members has been awesome.

I was fortunate enough to find the last 37 Midnight that was popped from the mold with the last long deck (top deck mold was destroyed).

The last owner of Midnight still has it and he is hooking me up!!!!! It should be ready to hang O/Bs on in 3 weeks. I found a quad Midnight bracket and I am piecing the rest together.

Also stayed in South Beach when I bought the hull, which was AWESOME:drink:

Stay tuned for picts

For your oil needs go to Sams Club. Quicksilver gal. are around $15-00 ea. I run twin 250 EFI's & love em.

FeverMike 06-24-2007 09:28 PM

I owned 250efi's on my last boat and WOW the oil burn was extremely high. Also the counter roatating engine will go through some drives as this was a know prob at Merc. the efi's smoke and stink like heck and if you put 4 of them on you better find a place to store around 30-40+ gallons absolute min. (no exageration) of oil.

NJgr8ful 06-24-2007 09:56 PM

225hp 4-stroke Yammys, sent you a PM.

Congrats! Will be BadA$$ with a capital BA. :D

does anyone know if 23" centers will work with opti's

Enforcer2 06-25-2007 08:28 PM

Now I just need to find the engines.

Ed 06-26-2007 08:20 AM

Did you get the boat from Byng? Whether you did or didn't, ask him all about engine centers, installed heights, etc., on whatever engines your going with. He owns Marine Machine AND owned Midnight. If anyone would know, he would. www.MarineMachine.com If you need his cell number, let me know.

fountain1fan 06-26-2007 06:38 PM

Thanks, ED I bought the hull from last owner of Midnight Express Inc. . I have spoken with Bing in the past, and could not recall specs.

This hull has a pad @ transom and will be laid up a lot lighter than the old. (It is being built for me.)

Picts to come soon!!!

Not the 1st few years of the 250xs Opti. They can use 87 octane as of the 2005 models.

You think so????!!!! You have it backwards...Opti's use less oil and fuel than the old technolofy efi's.

Enforcer2 07-11-2007 08:49 AM

still looking for power...anyone have leads on quad set up or twins???

FeverMike 07-11-2007 09:11 AM

I saw an announcement that Mercury has a new 250 Opti coming out with the Verado's lowers. It will have much better fuel mileage and burn less oil and have a longer warranty than the 250xs Opti.

Enforcer2, you need to get your hands on some copies of SE, West Coast and SW Boat Trader magazine. There are always tons on adds for used motors, re-furbished motors w/ warranty and so forth in those publications.

Enforcer2 07-11-2007 09:29 AM

Thanks Fever Mike, does not seem like there's a whole lot out there right now. I'll keep lookin.

CincyExpress 07-24-2007 02:46 PM

hey enforcer, do you still have some contacts with the old owners of midnight? i have heard midnight was thinking about bringing back the old race style

Enforcer2 07-24-2007 02:54 PM

Hey Cincy I have contact with old owner and new. You have to PM me for more info. :party-smiley-004:

Enforcer2 07-24-2007 02:57 PM

By the way, how come no one has commented on my alternative power and crew of Latinas and Mojitos????????

omerta one 07-24-2007 02:58 PM

The XS is the way to go...I have a 250XS on my bass boat and it just plain gets it. Zero problems in 4 years.

Enforcer2 07-24-2007 03:01 PM

Yeah, I found two 250xs for the right price but to find two more with 30" shafts is difficult.

I am about to purchase quad 250 EFI's ready to go with latham steering, wing plates, helm etc... for a heck of a deal.

CincyExpress 07-30-2007 01:21 PM

sorry i dont know what pm means

I'd be interested in what you found for 25" 250XS if you decide not to get them.
