Lake Minnetonka. Mn

Thinking of taking a trip to this lake and wondered if anyone has any information. Are there speed restrictions? Is this lake friendly to performance boaters?

Tonka is where i do most of my boating. I have been there the last 3 Saturdays. There are 4 fun Bar/Restaurants on the lake and a popular raft-up spot called Big Island. There is a 40mph speed limit that I frequently disregard. I have gotten pulled over once for not slowing fast enough before a no wake zone, never for speeding. There are a good number of fountains, donzis, scarabs, bajas, and advantages out here with a couple cigs and nortechs, and a lot of cruisers, ski boats, and runabouts. If you need any more info, please let me know.

It's a great boating lake, I grew up on it.....launch ramps are a pain in my opinion.

Honk if you see a fat guy in a Magnum......:D

Save your time and come out to the St Croix

Where you hang on the Croix? I'm usually poking around between Afton and the boomsite north of Stillwater in my old formula.

I second that. Except for the no-wake zones, there is no speed limit on the St. Croix or the Mississippi Rivers. Lots of Bald Eagles out there, right now. Plus, Hudson, WI has lots of bars/restaurants.

I spent a summer in Minneapolis a couple of years ago, had no idea they had that much going on on the water around there. I would have been mooching rides like crazy. Did get drunk at a bar/resteraunt on Minnetonka one night though.... :drink:

Tonka is my home lake and we love it.

40MPH daytime, 20MPH at night.

One caution: At night the primary hot spot, Lord Fletchers, is swarming with Sheriff Boats. If you are loud, you WILL be pulled over.

I have been hassled very little during the day the last couple years. There has been an increase in accidents, so the Sheriff has stepped up patrols. Mostly going after jet skiis, gun-whale riding and, curbing underage drinking at Big Island. It's provided a nice cover for speed and noise.

Let me know if I can offer you any assistance. We'd like to hook-up with you.

Thanks for the replies. We will be making this trip August 3 and plan on going to the St Croix. Hope to meet up with some of you. I have a 30' all white Checkmate. A little unusual as there are no graphics on the boat.

Haha, I think your boat is a little more unusual because of the drive and motor that is in it! :evilb: :evilb: Hope to see you out on the Croix. :D

The 50 foot Nor-tech is Marks boat and its down at his house on the south side of Cape Coral, FL now. Its a pretty bad ass boat, unfortunately I haven't talked him into giving me a ride in it yet.
