Thats pretty bad azz!

Drift 06-26-2007 12:15 AM

:( I'm bummed that someone could take a boat with that kind of heretige and 1. change one of the most iconic graphics on any offshore race boat in the world (and notabley voted one of the best looking of all time). 2. Replace them with tribal crap 3. Cut the top off, effectively destroying the world record holding boat that it was. I personally think it had much more value the way it was. I know it wasn't cheap and you could have built a boat instead of ruining a great one.

So much for preserving history. To each his own though.... :(

Hauling Trash 06-26-2007 05:30 AM

What are you talking about ???????

That boat is HOT

I think that is bad a$$. I would love to have a boat like that converted into a pleasure boat. Thats a lot of good history.

Drift,
someone put a lot of money into converting this boat, don't put them down for it. if you wanted to keep it "original" then maybe you should have ponied up the $$.

Wahoo ATV 06-26-2007 09:31 AM

Why sixes with a rudder? The boat is awesome looking.

Sweet!

hammer01 06-26-2007 09:52 AM

Boat turned out beautiful, JC what power did they keep in the boat. I know it had Sterling power for years, did they keep the big power? Hammer

tamburello 06-26-2007 11:26 AM

On the other thread about this boat the owner said that it still has the 1,500 Sterlings.

The conversion looks awesome and it makes the boat more usable than keeping it in its original form. I have a strong interest and appreciation of the historical side of offshore racing, but given the choice I'd rather see a raceboat go through a pleasure conversion and be running on the water than being parted out and left collecting dust like a lot of old raceboats seem to be.

I bet it was more that 1500 when it ran 200:rolleyes: :D

Cam-shaft 06-26-2007 02:45 PM

Looks good, however who says a race boat is not a pleasure boat before converted. I would keep the canopy on for sure.
Thanks, Cam-shaft.

rdoactive 06-26-2007 02:51 PM

Look at the skegs and the fixed struts on the drives.
The 6s dont turn.

I just followed this boat for a mile or 2 Sunday afternoon coming into Metro park on St. Clair. It was impressive, and I thought it was the bacardi boat since he was heading toward where the bacardi boat is tored in a big garage!

boater31v 06-26-2007 08:27 PM

Looks absolutely fantastic, I love the conversion.

allfiredup 06-26-2007 08:38 PM

My brother does tires for the guy that had it converted. He also owns Miss Nor-tech that i listed with Lake Cumberland. I think he own a couple of gentlemens clubs.:D

I'm not trying to put the new owner down. Is the boat still awesome? Yes... and you are right, if I had the $$$ would I have bought it. Unfortunately I don't, God knows I wish I did. That does not mean I can't and shouldn't have an opinion on it. That boat is a piece of Racing History.

Being a person that appreciates things for what they are, there was something very special about that boat the way it was. Like historic races at Monterey, it is fantastic to see pieces of Racing history preserved wether it be automotive, aeronautic like a P51 Mustang or Aquatic. I hope that the trends in both the automotive and aeronautic also start to filter into boating, we curently see it in wooden boats and river boats, why not offshore?

Not knowing the real $$$$ spent on converting a boat but considering the ammount of work that is visible, almost every aspect of the boat above the waterline has been changed. I was thinking that they could have just gone out and bought a purpose built Skater instead.

I also have a new 40 skater being built.

dave911 06-26-2007 10:28 PM

I hate most tribal, but that's the best I've ever seen.
If the owner wants to turn it back to heritage colors later, shouldn't be a big deal to close her up and repaint. No big.
Do what you want. When you want.

Byrdman 06-26-2007 11:10 PM

How fast did you have the boat going so far??

allfiredup 06-27-2007 09:32 PM

Hey Flight me & Tim think it's bad a$$. Nice job hope to hook-up with you next time I'm in town. Maybe I'll bring my GTX.
