that was the first boat i looked at when i got into offshore stuff.. i saw a pic of it and then found a nordic thor 27.. then realized i needed one less hull and it needed to be longer.. good luck! its a cool ride

Bad Ass Industrial 06-26-2007 07:07 PM

This is a brand new hull we are just getting tooled up its a new look to our current 27 but with a few new changes. We are getting ready to start shooting the first 26' v this next month. Anyone looking for a sweet 28 v let me know.

VEGAS36CAT 06-26-2007 08:24 PM

That's a nice looking boat. Kinda reminds me of the Conquest Boss cat.

TexomaPowerboater 06-27-2007 10:56 AM

It is an awesome looking boat and the hull looks very up to date. BUT I don't think they make a very good boat.........I used to think they did, but this recent ad makes me think otherwise

Check it out

I know its an insurance recovery boat, but still.........2005 with stress cracks already...........I guess its just meant for the lake. If it can't stay together better than that then its just a bunch of fancy fiberglass.

Actually I work with Ultra an can tell you that the chips/ cracks are not from the builder they are from when the boat was stollen. The dirt bags that stole the boat did some minor damage to the boat.

those boats are actually OVER built if anything...I'm talking brick ****house...That 27' Shadow is pushing about 5500LBS. Solid as a BLOCK WALL... :drink:

Bad Ass Industrial 06-27-2007 12:14 PM

at present the current hull depending on motor is about 4900lbs with out trailer weight I can pull it with out getting a big ass truck is the nice part.

TexomaPowerboater 06-27-2007 12:30 PM

OK my bad. I don't really know anything about ultra or any other cats for that matter. I just go by what I see and that looks like a stress crack to me. I did talk to somebody with ultra because I was interested in buying one until I asked him how the boat did in 4-6ft lake chop. He said......"lets be honest - in 4-6ft waves all you are trying to do is get back home." :D Translation - Lake boat:evilb:

Bad Ass Industrial 06-27-2007 12:50 PM

I just run the lakes so for us its a good set up for us. Lite to med chop the current hull kicks butt performance wise cant wait tell the new hull is ready. As for power Im still on the fence with that as of yet kind of stuck between 525 and T800

Stormrider 06-27-2007 01:00 PM

4-6ft waves in a lake = lake michigan.
and i ain't talkin 50ft sea ray wakes either.

Thats what i was thinking. There isn't a 27' boat in the world that is comfortable in real 4-6' seas. No matter what design, how heavy, or how well made, it just isn't long enough for a smooth ride in 4-6 footers.

Anyone who tells you different doesn't know what actual 4-6' seas look like.

Bad Ass Industrial 06-27-2007 02:05 PM

4-6 feet on a lake its time to really ask yourself what are you doing out here yes im a fair weather boat owner

Overbuilt? Have they changed their construction methods significantly over the last couple of years?

When they had that godawful "Rock the Boat" show on OLN about Ultra, it looked to me like they were slapped together out of plywood and drywall screws.

Bad Ass Industrial 06-27-2007 02:52 PM

yeah the show was a mess it didnt show the true pride that goes into each boat and how built they really are.

HAHA.... I asked them about that and they told me most of that stuff was staged. Thats why they don't have the TV show from what I understand. The producers wanted drama......which meant showing problems with production and staging drama scenes. The manufacturer just wanted them to show how good of a boat they were building. Looking back on it - I believe him.

28 Pantera
28 Active Thunder (27ft something)

I am told both handle true 4-6ft waves. My 24 python handled 2-3ft waves. Waves are measured differently in different areas. I measure from the hole to the crest.

Stormrider 06-27-2007 03:06 PM

Told, shmold... when i'm out in my 40ft SF in 4's doing 22knts, i'd like to see someone blow by at 50-60.
Most guys outta my inlet to the Atlantic tremble at 6ft on their way out... it flattens afterwards.
They all turn back before the entrance bouy.
But this is another story...
back to ULTRA.

Bad Ass Industrial 06-27-2007 03:25 PM

i was in the Coast guard for 7 years on a dozen different life boats and to this day I still cant tell you the correct way to measure waves. Most in land lakes from what i rember from class can only generate about a 4' max wave due to depth and size. however certain canyon style lakes and large lakes can reach up to about 6' max but only for a short time and in certain areas. This doesnt take in the great lakes or areas like that.

here is little site that gives the way to figure out how deep of waves you are in.

Yeah tv can be a mess however we did do the boats for "fear factor and a Monster Garage" We have a total of about 3 new boats coming out real soon 1 V and 2 cats. When it comes to doing a show on reality TV only belive about 10% of it alot of the stuff you dont see is all about making the viewer stay tuned in.

Living in SD I never put my boats in the salt so being a lake bum is all we do. At first we looked at a 28 V seeing how we thought maybe about going in the salt but then rode the cat and were hooked.

dude--it was TV  I know first hand there are no short comings in an Ultra boat when it comes to build quality... remember, its a west coast lake boat--it is every bit the equal to DCB, Eliminator, etc...not Skater, MTI, Nortech, Spectre...
several of our havasu friends have Ultra cats...

I guess different people have different ideas of what is considered comfortable as well. I could take a 17ft boston whaler in 4-6 footers and make it home safely, but i wouldn't be comfortable (at all). Its all relative, but most people don't want to be out cruising in a small boat in big seas for an extended period of time regardless of brand. (the two mentioned above are GREAT rough water boats...for their size)

Jason-

Whats that most inland lakes will only generate solid 4 footers at the most. Obviously they are not talking about the Great Lakes, You can ask anyone that was on the Chicago Poker Run last year will tell you they get NASTY. I think most of the pack was running in the 60mph range with a few over 90mph . There is a picture of Poker Face with the drives 3 foot out of the water.
I quess thats what seperates the men from the boat owners.
