Is this average hours for a 1990 boat

I am looking at a 1990 Sunsation that has 425 hours on it. It has the 454/ 330hp bravo 1 power. Is 425 hours average, above or below for this year. Boat looks pretty good and the owner has had someone replace the gimbal bearing and seals last year when he bought it. Any thoughts of suggestions about it.

Thanks
Patrick

425 hours is not out of line. My 1991 has over 620 hours on the hull, but the motor is newer.

mine just hit 500

High or low hours in a boat that old aren't as important as the overall condition of the boat, engine and drive. Is it clean and shiney? Is the motor and drive still pretty? does it run good? Compression? Funny noises? Take it to a shop of your choice and have it looked over. Be sure to have the drive removed for inspection and change the drive oil.

50 hours a year is about average in book. I would say 425hrs on a 1990 is on the low end. I had 475 on my 1996 when I sold it.

I sold our 94 3 years ago with 535 hours. Thats only 50-60 hrs a year. Thats average. Those motors run 4 times that if they are maintaned well.

Just about to hit 500 hours on my 88 454 mag. Running fine.

I have over 80hrs this year already, 50-60hrs per year seems low to me. Its all about how well the boat was taken care of, 454mercs are tough. 425hrs on one isn't bad, I've seen more than double that on them.

725 hours on my 454's in my Sunsation Dominator.. Love the boat, love the power.. I think they were rebuilt at 650 hours. What kind of sunsation are you looking at?

waterboy222 07-11-2007 03:55 PM

oh, and its a 1993 model

Around 625 on my 2000 29 outlaw. Oil every 25 hrs and drive oil 5o hrs. It is all in the maint. The bad part is that I have only used it Twice this year since we got the 43. It is a 87 and it only has 425 hours on crusaders.

I put about 15-30hrs a year on my go-fast

I put 100hrs a year on my sea ray.

The Sunsation is a 24 Rocket. The guy is asking 13500. Does that price sound reasonable?

Playn 07-12-2007 09:06 AM

sounds reasonable. My 1990 Baja w/454 - Bravo 1 has 530 hours on it and still runs great. Heck I'd take $13,500 for it :drink:

425 hours is loooooow. And considering the motor doesn't have an ECM, there is no way to know for sure how many hours are actually on the motor. Go to Sunsation's site post some questions about the boat. Joe at the factory may have information as to the original owner and the boat's history.

Ours is a '96 and it has 295 hrs, and I think it's used pretty sparingly

!!! I think this is the boat that I bought. White 90' Rocket with red and black in St. Clair Shores? 425 is what he said... it actually had 428 on it.

The boat has been great so far. I jumped a freighter wake/wave and broke some wood in the driver's seat (I'm a big guy just under 300lbs). That, and the center windsheild support is cracked (I knew about it when I bought the boat). So far, she runs nice and smooth.

I just got the seat rebuilt with better brackets and wood and got it reinstalled yesterday! Had the seam on the back seat fixed as well. Can't wait to go back out. I noticed that the passenger seat is a little loose on the right side of it, but the bolts seem to be stripped in the floor. Need to figure out how to fix that...

If anyone wants to meet up, I'm anxious to meet some people to hang out with on the lake. I'll be out there this Wed. and probably all weekend.

Later,
-=Mike G.

Congratulations Mike. I am glad the boat was in as good shape as the guy told me. If I did not have my own Boat/ Project, I would have bought that one. May I ask what you paid for it?

Patrick
