Auto wheels on a boat trailer?
 

I covered this once in the transportation forum but it was so 50/50 that I decided to bring it here and see what happens. Im looking at changing out the wheels and tires on my trailer and I want to put 15 or 16 inch custom wheels but the ACTUAL BOAT TRAILER WHEEL market is incredibly slim. I want the SAME wheels that are on the formula poker run boat that they take to all the runs. What are the negatives of this? IVe found some from Ultra that are for SUVS that will fit over my bearings and fit my lug pattern. They say they support 4k+ on each rim. I have a 32' sunsation and a triple axle trailer..

any advice?

just as long as the load rating of the wheel and the tire meet or exceed your total weight you should be ok .I have had a set of 20's on my trailer for 2 years now with no issues at all .I just made sure to get a tire with load rating that was acceptable

Just a educated guess......I would think if rim fits and has the proper load rating then it could work. As far as tires I do know they have to have a ST rating.

The trailer doesn't know if there are trailer wheels or truck wheels bolted to it. If the weight ratings are where they need to be, you're in.

I've seen opinions that at slow speed on tight turns the wheel sees side loadings not usual for truck wheels. This is insignificant compared to the kinds of loads seen at speeds under highway conditions.

As long as they're rated for the load (or more) you should be fine.

Might have trouble finding trailer tires that fit, but regular truck tires would be acceptable. Bias ply is preferable on multi-axle trailers, though, because you drag them sideways when turning.

awesome, those are the responses i was looking for. I hope to get these put on pretty soon and get the trailer repainted. It will do A LOT for the rig i bet..
