Default 7.5L 460 King Cobra. anyone familiar with this power package

I am looking at buying a 1989 boat with this power package but I don't know anything about it. Here is the link to the boat, it will be used to knock around in in S FL.

Is it reliable? Crap? Any input is appreciated.

Thanks

WILL

How can the 460 be crap. It is a solid motor loaded with torque and power. Maybe not a lot of aftermarket parts avalilable but a 460 motor is a solid motor.

Interesting, I actually wasn't so worried about the motor as I was the drive on the boat?? On its best day it was crap? Did any of you own one or know someone who did?

Thanks

I owned one. Well, 13 drives to be exact. 129 hrs, two seasons and 13 drives all on a brand new 22 foot pad V hull that was light. The drive was a total POS from day one. OMC engineers had my boat more than I did. They replaced everything but the motor right down to the shifter handle trying to keep it together to get it thru warranty. I traded it in with a shiny new drive(#13) on the back and never looked at an OMC product again.

On a 25 cruiser that drive will be fine. I had a 30' with that package and was very happy. I put on about 350 hours with no issues at all. If you are going to put more HP to it and go out and crush some waves it will last about 20 minutes. As a cruiser your fine and the price is right.

I saw that king cobra set up in The New York Boat show when it as debuted .I asked the guys there why a shiftable drive had a b/w transmission in front of it? I was asked to leave the booth. Nice engineering. That combo was finally abandoned.

They don't make parts for the OMC anymore.
