E-DOCK crew & Chicago Poker Run

3 Attachment(s)
Gotta love them guys and gals. Everyone always says..... E-DOCK RULES:ernaehrung004: Now I see why. Just a bunch of down to earth boys and girls that just want to have a great time, nomatter what.
I had several people that I've never met before, that came up to me and told me what a fun bunch of people they are, and to make sure they come back next summer. Every time you look at their group in the pits, they were always mingling with all the crowd, passing out T-shirts, giving away coozie cups, and making everyone around them laugh and smile. What a fun lovin group to be with. I think I'm gonna have to head down to Grand Lake to pay those boys a visit real soon.

I know from a post I put on another thread last friday about our Poker Run, it seems as tho some of you guys misunderstood what I was referring to. I was'nt referring to anyone at all about what size boat they run, I was meerly just stating that with all the bragging some guys here do about how excellent of a rough water boat they have, and registering for participating in an event that you know could possibly have some extreme water conditions, waiting til the day before and backing away.
We had boats that are 25' that ran the whole event, because they know what to expect out here and can compensate for it.

I guess what I really need to do, is give an appology to the OuterLimits factory team. We could'nt figure out, who or what scared them away.:D At first we thought that the weather forcast calling for 5-7 ft waves did it, and I could've understood that. Then, we thought that maybe when they found out that Reggie was coming and possibly bringing a big gun, that did it. And I could understand that too, as seeing how they've been taking a whippin from him over seas. I could see not wantin a whippin at a poker run. I was almost ready to read Reggie the riot act for scarring the OL factory team away, when the E-DOCK boys heard me talkin about it. Well, low and behold, I found out the real reason they

were scared away. It was them darn E-DOCK boys, and they admitted it too. They said they're sorry, but could'nt say it won't happen again. It was actually kinda funny when we were all talking about it. Everbody needs a good laugh now and then, and we all had a good one last weekend.

Now, don't everybody take this the wrong way. This is only about a few select "factory team" scaredy cats. We have one local guy here with one of the sharpest, bad to the bone 47 OL with a pr of 1250's, and Nick with Rocket Man hung with all of us for the long run. It was just too bad that he was alone in representing the OL's. Alot of people were very disappointed about the lack of support from such a "offshore" boat builder like OL.

Now, shame on you E-DOCKERS !!! :angry-smiley-055:

E-Dock Rules........I didnt know what that meant at the begining of the weekend. But sure did by the end. What a great bunch of guys.

44MTI 07-24-2007 09:37 AM

Thanks Frank for all the kind words and the hospitality. We truely had great time. We are just a bunch Kids wanting to have a good time and you and your group certainly gave us that. :D Cant' wait till next yr, you and your crew are always welcome down south.

P Offshore 07-24-2007 09:46 AM

Frank, I can't say enough about the hospitality afforded us by your entire crew, it was a great experience. I have heard several of the E-dock crew talking about planning Chicago for next year already.
Thanks again for a great weekend. Erik & Andrea

StraightJacket 07-24-2007 12:35 PM

Erik you left Jim's loudest boat award at the bar on sat. Sommers has it and we plus Kool Aid might just have to fly down and drop it off. You said 100 yards off the water we can land HMMMMM.

BZ 07-24-2007 12:47 PM

I don't know what all of the fuss is about those E-Dock guys where scared to run in the ruff stuff all week-end......(REALLY just kidding) It was nice tio finally meet the E-Dock gang I think I am just getting sober today. I was completely sober at that point :food-smiley-009: and left it there as bait so you guys would fly down for a visit.

Well something like that anyway...

Ms PatriYacht 07-24-2007 01:39 PM

Frank did all those boats you posted about the day before the PR not show. There were about 5 or 6 last min. entries including The Factory Billet at Boyne Thunder. Ian and I were the second card boat for the run and NOT one OL made it to the stop:( We were not sure what happened, I believe some had trouble and did not make it out on time for the start, we were all dissapointed because we hardly got to see them run. Lake MI in Northern MI was pretty flat. I wish you and the guys at Boyne Thunder could work it out that the runs don't fall on the same weekend. I know of a bunch of boats that would like to attend both events

Donna, when we started this run we specifically picked a weekend that did not have any conflicts with any runs in our area including Boyne. We thought that was just common courtesy. That courtesy was obviously not returned when Boyne moved their event to the same weekend as our run. I know of quite a few members who were at the Chicago Poker Run who have run Boyne in the past. Makes absolutely no sense to me to compete when we have so few events in this area.

As far as the OL guys, yep they were registered and several were pre-paid. A couple still showed up and at least one other had an unrelated conflict. We were on Outerlimits calendar all year and they pulled out last second and took TAOD with them. The boats I really couldn't care less about. We couldn't have fit more if we wanted to. Losing the helicopter caused us some issues, the worst of which is our 2 hired helicopters had to stay in the air longer to get full coverage resulting in a higher bill than planned. Of course this results in less money being donated to the charity, as we give 100% of the money not spent on the run to Children's Memorial Foundation. Congratulations Outerlimits, because of some political BS you took $$$ from sick kids. We hope you are proud of yourselves. Please do not take this as a jab to any Outerlimits owners, I have friends with Outerlimits and I love the boats. Oh well, that's all my ranting for now.

yzbert 07-24-2007 05:19 PM

Boyne I believe was moved becouse Smoke had to move back week and asked Boyne to move. Then Smoke was cancelled. These are two great runs (Boyne and Chicago)that raise alot of money for sick kids, boyne has raised over 100,000 in three short years, maybe all will work togeather next year. I really dont think Boyne was trying to take anything away from Chicago. There are alot of boats that did Smoke and then would come up to Boyne the next weekend, I think Smoke put them in a bad position by having to move there run.

fantastixvoyage 07-24-2007 05:28 PM

Steve - I have to laugh when people talk of political b.s. then get right in the middle of it. I do not know why OL pulled out from Chicago, nor do I care. They still made an appearance at a charitable event and that is what it is all about. It was great to see them at the event.

When I talked to the Boyne people I got the same story as that above. They always try to be a different weekend than Smoke and have full intentions of avoiding Chicago next year. I consider these both local events and two great ones at that. I think this is best worked out between the two organizers and not on here. just my .02

It is my hope next year july will consist of smoke, chicago, boyne plus the st. clair race (each on a different wkend) - now THAT would be a schedule!!!!! I think I'm gonna need a spare everything!!!!

Congrats to both clubs for putting on two very fun, safe events!!!! Now quit being lazy and :signs069: on next year!!!:D

Cig "Um" 07-24-2007 05:58 PM

Great event to be apart of......had a great time! Hope to come again next year!

I believe Boyne Thunder had about nine of them along with factory support. It's odd how everyone forgets so quickly, how bad OL kicked everyones azz there last year

Honestly, do we have to go through this...again? There is NO "AZZ KICKING" in a Poker Run!!!! It's not about how fast you are, or how expensive your boat is, it's about having a good time and meeting new people...something that was exceptionally true during this year's run. Don't make this into an arguement of "E-dock vs. OL" or "Fountain vs. OL"...it's not that at all.

Scott B 07-24-2007 06:47 PM

Geepers Wally, it suurrrre appears to be someone against OL...

That boat is truely bad! We see it out all the time downtown...I've got some cool pics of him launching before the run right next to Mr. Cig in his 85 Flatdeck...new school/old school!

Unfortunately, something broke on Rocketman almost in Michigan City...he had a loooong idle back.

That's fine, I think all the OL's should stay in calm water. And as far as how OL kicked everyones azz last year??? Are you talkin about the 47 OL with 1075's against the 47 Fountain with 525's that they could'nt shake off their azz into the first card stop???
Yeah, I remember that, the Ol was first by about a few seconds over 30 miles of running 8 footers. It's just too bad that Bob Hennif's Fountain did'nt have equal power. Now, that would've been something to watch. :D

Back4More 07-24-2007 08:07 PM

My buddy wanted to see some OL's since he has only seen them in the mags.

Spine Tingler 07-24-2007 08:52 PM

Thanks Frank. We all feel very priviledged to be able to hang out with such an incredible group of people. You're right, we just like to hang out with like minded individuals and enjoy ourselves. For me it was a great experience and I learned alot about my boat. You guys really won my wife over because before meeting all of the people at this run she never knew why I had so much fun just being at these events.

I suppose you were right with them so you know how close everyone was. It was more like minutes. And you sound like you know alot about boats. So are you saying that in big water more horsepower is better. I 've always thought that it was a equalizer at least that is the only time I have been able to run with the fast cats. I guess my point is that I am sure last year during the poker run you ran your boats best speed ever in the rough:cool-smiley-011:

Good point Mike. I think I can speak for most of the E-dock guys and certainly for myself. First of all we all had a blast at the run in Chicago. Secondly we really like the OL guys and the way they run their boats. Most of them really like to run hard and that makes it fun for some of us. They will be at Sarasota, Key West and many others as we have all been for many years in the past and we look forward to a great time as usual. PS I think that was my longest post ever. I won't do it again.:D :D Peace!!

I wish Boyne had not been the same weekend also. I understand they had to move their dates because of SOTW. They picked our weekend and I am still Okay with that.

This is what I had a problem with from the Poker Run Section:

This is how we found out we had lost a helicopter that was promised to us. The Art Of Design had volunteered the use of their Helicopter to fly the Hotboat Magazine Photographer at the 2007 Chicago Poker Run. In return TAOD was given a sponsorship for this years event. It worked out great last year as Dean did a great job flying EBM at the event. As promised we had the TAOD logo on our shirt. We counted on that Helicopter and it wasn't there. No phone call.....nothing.

We are a non-for profit club trying to raise money for Children's Memorial Hospital.

Ms PatriYacht 07-24-2007 09:28 PM

Wow I did not mean to open a can of worms regarding what poker runs OL decides to attend. I am surprised that a company like OL would leave you guys in a jam like that over the helicopter, especially with no notice.

In reference to the dates Ysbert it is correct, I spoke to JBoyne later today and he told me that Marc (SOTW) called him very early in the year and asked him if they could change their date because July 4th was on a Wednesday and he could not get a permit from Grand Haven for the first weekend in July like in past years. Unfortuantely Boyne could not be run the last weekend in July since it is Venetian Festival on the Lake. Out of respect for the older established run they let SMOKE have their original date. So that left them with the 3rd weekend in July, they felt their run is smaller and would not be as much of a conflict with Chicago as it would be if it was the same weekend as SMOKE. 08 looks like it will be the same again, Marc hopes to run SMOKE and wants the second weekend since July 4th is on a Friday and Chicago (according to Mark Smith) will rightfully hold their event on the third weekend. So Boyne either has to run the same weekend as SMOKE or Chicago or move their run to August, which the city does not really want to do. Lake MI has so much to offer in boating and we have so many locations that are perfect for poker runs, the big problem is our summer is just to darn short to spread them out:(

I did not choose to get in the middle of anything. I'm the treasurer for the club and therefore am the guy who writes the checks and that puts me in the middle of it. Outerlimits' act was very unprofessional and the ones who ultimately pay for their choice is a charity. As far as my comments regarding Boyne, I was just answering a question raised about why we were on the same date. I truly hope the runs are on separate dates in the future so people have a chance to do both, though I'm not certain my liver could handle it.

In defense of Smoke, Marc, and Bob. They had every intention of putting on Smoke on the Water for 2007. It was not until they became involved in the lawsuit concerning the events of the 2005 poker run that they decided to cancel the 2007 event.

We know that Cherie' and it was NOT by their choice either. That's what's so sad about the whole situation you have to deal with. There was nothing you could've done, and now, you, Marc, and Bob are paying the price for someone elses mistake. And with that said, all the rest of us boaters have to suffer with you.
